How many of you upgrade just because you can?

I support my family and don't have much in the way of disposable income, upgrades take me a lot of budgeting.

This is what started me thinking this a few years back I upgraded to the latest cpu/vga on release just because I could now I have 3 kids and another on the way I am having a hard time justifying the money. yesterday I was eying up the 3570k on offer with 8gb ddr3 and a new board but missed the offer anyway but in a way I am probably glad as I don't seem to game as obsessively now due to having a young family and to be fair my system ([email protected]/4GB dd2/5850) has yet to be brought to its knees. So I am now in a constant flux of eying up new builds and thinking do I need it.
 
I find it hard to justify, unless its broken or struggling to keep up. In the last 5 years with my gaming computer I have changed the GPU to a 7970, which was 2nd hand and @ at £250. Looking at replacing the CPU as it seems to struggle a little with new games now. Phenom II 940BE 3.0Ghz.

You may get some good offers out when the next Intel CPU's come out. May get away with an upgrade.
 
if you don't want to upgrade, easy get an xbox/ps3 etc, we all get pc's so we can alter the bits.

we have cars that do 100+ mph but we can only do 70 legally on the roads

we have fast gaming rig's but spend as much time typing on forums etc, "might as well bought a type writer as it would have been cheaper)

we have a lounge with really comfy chairs etc and then spent the evenings at a desk on a computer chair.

so i guess the answer is we do because we can
 
Nah Zak we do it because we like to tell people how fast our CPU goes ;) Although down where I live they prolly think a CPU is a type of fetiliser...

I would 100% guarantee you, I'd spend that money in a much better form. Car Deposit, New lens for my camera....all the little things you've not got round to doing.

Can't you just show them the Jurassic coast? There's plenty of hidden coves there. I know of at least 2 not far from Portland Bill ;)
 
Personally, I upgrade because I can. I have a £2000 X79 System, £2000 2012 iMac, and a MBA and Ipad3 for while on the move. I am a single man for the foreseeable future (i'm only 20) with no dependants, I feel I might as-well spend when I can.

I don't throw money away, and I am saving up for when I do have the chance for a family, but I gave my self a choice, have a really nice large property or a really nice small property with nice stuff as-well. Personally since I live alone I chose small property and nice stuff currently.

So yeh I choose to upgrade because I can lol.

I dont know to be honest mate! I was down there this weekend with wind hitting 29/30mph, and was able to lean into the wind at 45degrees. Few pics of your interseted!!

Waves were impressive and despite the high wind and some rain, spotted 4/6 surfers just out from the holiday homes.
