How many people use their console online?

I was just wondering roughly what proportion of people use their console online? Specifically how many XBox owners use Xbox live vs the number of PS3 users who go online with the PS3.

It just dawned on me that I've never played a console online before, mainly because I have an Xbox360 and I don't want to pay for Xbox live. I feel like I'm missing out :(. I'm considering maybe selling my Xbox and jumping ship to PS3 but just wanted to know who think Consoles give a good online experience?

In these circles it's probably going to be about 90% but it's surprising the amount of capable people at work etc who would either never dream of connecting their already owned console to their already owned router or give the same answer as they have for the past few years:

"yeah, keep meaning to set that up. Should get it sorted ...... one day"

So I'd say on here about 90%. If you stood in the street asking people I'd say about 40-50%

Online certainly. Not only is the online play fantastic, the number of features added since the PS3 came out that have been added through firmware upgrades is huge!

Got to be honest, but as soon as I saw the title I thought to myself - 'who doesnt have it online?'. Pretty much the defining feature of this console generation - there are plenty of AAA games that focus solely on online...

I would guess that the PS3 uses the same method as the PSP whereby newer game discs have the firmware update on with a mandatory install. Not 100% sure as mine is always uptodate anyway.

Well now I feel stupid, lol.
The problem has always been £8 a month for Xbox live + £30 for the wireless router because I don't want to drag a network cable through my house. That's why the PS3 is so alluring, no extra fees and built in wireless.

I remember the first time I was aware consoles could go online, Phantasy Star online for the Gamecube I think it was. Seemed like a wierd and exciting world back then.

I dno - trying to get any resale value on your console and games and then buying a PS3 sounds more of a challenge than paying for the adapter and Live isnt that expensive - £2/£3 a month no? Seems the easier and cheapest option short-term to me - Im sure some people here have those short trials they could offer you too...

I use my PS3 online all the time (mostly FPS), the only time I ever sign out is if I'm watching a film and I don't want pop ups saying whose online. Even with single player games, they nearly all have patches / updates that are received online.

not much tbh, since most games (fps, rts...) i play online i use a PC. console games i play are more platform/adventure type and i don't need to be online for that

I never go without having Xbox Live. I really don't know how some people don't like paying £5.99 a month for XBL. Hardly breaking the bank!

With my Wii, never against anyone I didn't know IRL.

With my PS3, nearly every game I play I will play online with. Most recently, Fifa 11, Killzone 3 & Black Ops. It's normally when the single player content isn't up to much.

Games like Drake's Fortune I've felt satisfied enough with the SP that I've never played online with it.

Some times, I always automatically sign in (gold on XBL) but very rarely play anything online, only really bad company 2...

I enjoy games with stories and adventures (RPG stuff).

Not all that crud called COD... Only time I play that is when my other half and I sit on the sofa and connect up to play due to her sis and her mate playing.

Which to be honest, can be funny some times, the sis and her mate ALWAYS top boards (both girls obviously) and my gf is better than me so I am always at the bottom :(

If you buy long Gold membership it works out around £2.50 per month. You can get outdoor rated CAT5 too. I used a bit to loop outside from the lounge to the dining room.

I can't play any game single player anymore, playing AI really irritates me now. I didn't even bother with the SP of COD this year which I usually always complete.

The only way SP would attract me if it's coop like GOW when it comes out as I've completed the others with my other half.
