250 posts and 3 months.

Access to the Members Market forum requires two things. Firstly, you will need to have over 250 posts and have been signed up for at least 90 days. Please note that this does not mean you spam the forums simply to increase your posts, as this action will result in posts being deducted, and if you continue this behaviour, your account will eventually be banned/suspended. Once you reach 250 posts, you will need to activate your trust. This is either found in your UserCP, or you can press the trust button that appears at the bottom of all your posts.

Im guessing this is a place where members sell products they own, as there wanting to upgrade etc ?

To be honest guys the Members Market is not worth the bother.

The moderation and the FAQ rules and regulations are so anal you get banned for just thinking the wrong bloody thing
I was stupid enough to mention pricing after looking at a few items I would have been interested in if the buyer was not living in the clouds with prices, being a member of so many forums I didn't really think about it, just stated some facts and expected either a cheeky reply or a "well how about this much" type thing

But no, a 48h ban, with the usual read the FAQ pap. The most anal FAQ pap that I can remember seeing in any forum  Honestly someone need to get a grip with that FAQ rules stuff, maybe get out more

I probably would not have noticed, but I had decided to buy a few things so logged on to ask a few questions just to find I could not check the Members market for a CPU or hard drive, nor ask any opinion of what I was about to order, nor have any price barter for a bunch of DVD's :(

Well one good turn deserved another, I didn't bother ordering my kit from OcUK due to the ban, and bought a CPU, 1Tb F3, 1.5Tb WD Green, DVD drive, wireless keyboard, and Corsair PSU from elsewhere, with another PSU being bought on order. At least the other places offered free postage and their connected forums don't ban people for stating prices seem high in classifieds ;)

And to hell with his DVD's, I spent the money on a chain for my bike and Roam MTB dvd from (oh I better not mention a bicycle shop just in case someones moderating arse whistles!)

The rules are quite strict but they run a tight ship over there. I think they have to stick to the rules otherwise it will get very messy very quickly and people will end up being scammed and it will crumble.

So yes the rules are tight but they are well publishised and one of the OcUK sayings is "Read the FAQ"

Think it will be a judgement call, technically hes not broken any rules but the ranting want be too kindly looked upon!

If you don't like the way the forum is run, leave. It's quite simple. I can only assume if you're that willing to stick the boot in because you broke the rules and were punished as you should have known you would be, then you're not really contributing anything worthy anyway.

Well at the end of the day, if they have members selling kit at above what it can be bought for new, then they must expect that people may mention such without thinking.

At the end of the day it's a public forum with people selling kit, I think the fact that you have to be a member for so long is reasonable protection, banning someone for stating someone is charging amost twice the price an item can be bought for is bewildering.
So they protect the seller, but not the potential buyer?

Personally, if someone is selling something second hand, and that item is avialable new for that price or less, then you should be allowed to mention that to see if prices drop, and it should be allowed viewable so that others realise they can buy it new for less.
No amount of spin or FAQ bull makes protecting such pricing excuseable. And the fact is, that if that buyer had realised it was a bit much, and reduced some of them to less than current store prices, he would have sold a few if willing.

As for recieving a spanking for expressing an opinion due to excessive moderation, well that in itself is nothing more than my point proved further.

Current members market FAQ fact.

IT allows people to sell stuff second hand for more than it would cost new.

IT protects that sellers pricing by NOT allowing it to be questioned openly.

IT allows sellers to take advantage of people who may NOT know better.

As I stated, I am a member of many forums, I am sitting in front of a keyboard and looking through some classifieds, I see some items I would like but they are priced at more than they cost new (which in my adult opinion is nothing to do with "subjective second hand prices"), so I mention that without thinking, expecting one response or the other. I should add, I am a regular member of many forums, and I am a prolific seller and buyer of items on some of those forums and have been for some years, it is VERY easy to post a reply to a thread stating what is on your mind with such a forum background.

As I now know the Members Market with it's FAQs and moderation is not for me, I will avoid the members market. I still enjoy the rest of teh forum, so guess I will just have to start moderating my own opinions and posts.

I was unhappy with the ban, considering I didn't think what I did was that bad. My mistake. I now know that the above rants are not it seems acceptable nor is questioning questionable pricing, so clearly the Members Market is not all that great for some people with opinions such as me.

:) Anyway, enough ranting from me, I got it off my chest. I would not have expressed the above if I was not geniunely surprised and dissapointed with the ban, I didn't expect such for what I felt something so trivial, and maybe I should have known better.

I still feel it is not worth new members chasing posts for access to the members market.

Must admit it is a bit bewildering that the prices cannot be questioned. But hey, rules are rules, they are there to protect. Only advice you can give is research your item before purchasing, which in most cases people do anyway :)
