What i meen is when i enter the task manager and click on proceses it says there is 60 proceses running and is taking up a lot of memory. Does anybody know how many there should be running at one given time?

60 processes is by no means excessive for Vista.

Some of these will also be things like your anti-virus sofware and other essential stuff.

Vista also uses memory slightly differently to XP in that it uses "idle" time for things like indexing etc which it turns off when you put the system under load.

Vista will use as much memory as you give it. this is to say while you might think "oh my its using 600mb" if you only had a 512mb of ram it would probably use around 400mb. So you dont need to worry about that as such - and in terms of processes 60isnt a lot for vista - but i would be inclined to disable some startup services :-)

74 Vista x64 Premium.

But i have things like my lcd, g15, g5, folding, folding monitors etc. Theres quite a bit going on. Oh, and xfire and the like for games.

The number will depends on if you have 'Show processes from all users' on.

I have 69 on my Vista Business Laptop myself.
Thats with Outlook2007, Firefox, Task Manager, Windows Sync Center, Daemon Tools & a few IBM apps running.
