As topic really. I just checked and i have 36 processes. 3 are to do with my printer though, may try and get rid of the ones i don't really need running. And one is DU Meter which i'm experimenting with. :)

11 on my start-up list. (msconfig).

Ive only got 32 now, i used to have about 43, bugger knows where the rest have gone as ive never checked for ages, mind you some could have been from my ATi card as that used to run a few. :p

on my main pc, just standard basic set of windows ones, nvidia one or two and hamachi

dont need any junk on my pc :) -i think it's about 14-17

76! :)
although its my t60 laptop, so has process for things like active hdd protection, battery management, trackpad support, bluetooth, network switching software etc etc.

much less on my gaming rig though.

Under XP, I have 20 processes running on boot up. I could get that number down though as 2 are for my printer and I have SpeedFan set up to load on boot.

71 processes are running but only 3 of them are active and one is the utility I used to view the running processes. :)

There are quite a few daemons running but they don't take many resources at all when the daemon's function is not being utilized. All the threads beginning with "k" are spawned by the kernel as it's a SMP kernel.

56 but I have lcdc, speedfan, msn, onenote, salling clicker, bulldog ups monitor, active sync, taskswitcher, windows indexer and kaspersky av - running so knocking those off gives 45 minus whatever relates to the rest of my system.

I know theres some acrobat bits, 3ds bits, powerdvd background junk and probably a whole load of other bits of junk running which arent needed too - need to do a clean install to loose all the bloatware :)

33 with various things open, including Firefox, uTorrent, AV, PSTrayFactory... etc... 5 are svchost.

40 here on vista. :) i used to streamline xp down to about 17 but can't be bothered to tweak vista. i removed a good few things using vlite though which has helped. :p
