Just our of curiosity, if you work in IT, how many servers do you look after, and for how many users. Also if there are not too many servers, what do they do?

Currently I have 12 servers for 80 users over 5 sites (and i am the only IT bod  )
1 for Email, 1 for Files, 1 for Terminal services, 1 x SQL for misc apps, 1 Unix box for old ERP, 1 SQL for new ERP, 3 x Citrix boxes for ERP and 3 Fedora boxes that control the Wireless RDT scanners. All backed up with 2 Ultrium tape drives....

i have a busy working life :)

mm

4 webservers,
2 large dbs,
1 administration server,
2 file servers,
2 google mini's,
1 reporting server,
25 desktops...

And its not even my main job to manage them all :P I just write the websites..

300 Workstations

Directly responsible for a single server with potential 250 users between staff and students, although most of the time only about 100. 100 desktops in two main student clusters, 30 in Honour's Lab with half running experiments and first-line support for various staff members.

Main tasks for the server (running Novell OES) are user login restrictions to department staff/students only, print server, file server and dhcp server. Backups handled by Computing Service in remote location.

I help out from time to time with a Linux server (running Debian iirc) and 24 Scientific Linux desktops clustered to help with research. I also help out with department Windows 2003 servers running terminal services for dial-up, file/print server, backups, WINS, etc.

Really depends on the needs of the department with other staff taking time off for whatever reason.

not responsible for any of them but we have about >250 or so for software developmet and testing running ASP.NET amoung other things

For a single (web/intranet) project we have fifteen live servers (DL360's) and fifteen dev servers (also DL360's).. then there are the other projects but the avoce thirty are our main ones.

50 file/print/apps/email/sql/misc servers and 12 domain controllers, spanning 3 countries. Approx 600 users.

Part of a 5 man team supporting those, their services, and the networks holding it all together.
