Just want to see how we are, as just got a rather enormous gas bill:

1.5 bedroom house
Gas used for cooking, heating, and hot water
I work from home 50% of time, so those days have it on 6AM- 11PM with a few hours off in the middle of the day
Thermostat at 21 degrees

Using 2.01 units of gas per day.

How does this compare to others?

Bill was £170 for 2 months and 1 day :(

Thanks

I dont understand your unit's, a unit of gas (from my supplier as an example) is 3.37p

Then a 14p per day standing charge.

At 2 units per day as you have posted, over 62 days, the bill would be what..13 quid?

We use the heating for 2 hours per day (one hour before we get up, one hour when we get in), cooking and hot water and our last bill was £120 for 3 months :(

It's really, really expensive - getting to the point where we just can't afford to have the heating on at all!

A £10 gas topup gets me around 17 units of gas, i think my unit is classed as 1 metre cubed of the stuff

I am unsure of units as I don't go far enough into that. I just pay via direct debit and mine comes to around £60 a month thats for a combo boiler switched on automatically from 6am to 8am and then 6pm till 8pm. It goes on when I turn any hot water tap on so I don't think my bills are that bad.

Sales call! ... :)

I had a bill of about the same in my house (3 bed) not sure what all the temperature's and things are set to, but I'm never cold. Which is all I care about :)

how do you have half a bedroom?

Because it's a study/ small bedroom downstairs (Currently a study) room about 9x9-ish

Keeping doors shut helps too, its easier to heat many small areas than one larger, open area.

I had to reduce my monthly gas payments yesterday to £35 as I was building up quite a large, unnecessary credit on my account.

Bes, as i say mate, a unit of gas is around 3-4p, you must be using far more than 2 units per day!

Jez,

I think there are 2 different types of unit. I am charged 7.149p on the first 463KWh and 3.578p on everything else

Gas is more complicated in the way it's billed than leccy. You pay per KWh but your meter is in m^3. A rough guide is that 1 m^3 of gas is around 11 KWh.

So, if using 2 units of gas per day you are using 660 KWh per month (if I've done my sums right!).
