Hi,

I'm building the following - please can you tell me how many watts PSU I need?:

MSI MAG VAMPIRIC 010 Case
MSI B450 GAMING PRO CARBON AC Motherboard
AMD RYZEN 5 3600X
Zotac NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 6GB
Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 16GB
ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 512GB M.2 Gaming Solid State Drive (SSD), black
Seagate Barracuda 3.5" HDD 2TB
5 or 6 cooling fans (120 or 140mm)

I've got these 2 in my list - will they cover me plenty?

Corsair CX series CX550 550W 80 PLUS BRONZE
Seasonic M12II EVO 520W Modular Power Supply

Thanks!

That rig would run just fine on a 400w PSU, although it's probably worth aiming for a 500-600 to give you future wiggle room.

Avoid that Seasonic unit, it's an ancient design and simply isn't a good option at the price point anymore.

This is a decent reference point:

I'd look for something B or above, which I believe the Corsair CX should be as long as it's from 2017 or newer.

I think pretty much all of the following are semi-modular and decent budget units within the same price range as what you're looking at: Cooler Master MWE Bronze V2 - MWE 80+ V2 - MWE Bronze V1 600w+ - Masterwatt.

I think CM offers a 5 year warranty even on it's budget PSU's, which is another plus.

Thanks guys.

So my idea with modular was because people have said its a lot easier to add custom cabling at a later stage as a full cable to the psu than an extension to the cable because of space...

What are your thoughts?

The cheapest modular I can find is EVGA 550 B3 (£59.99)
That's £15 more than an equivalent non-modular.

Trying to weigh up whether the extra £15 is worth it later down the line...

Thoughts?

Modular PSU's are brilliant for cable management aswell, I usually buy cable extension kits which just slot on the end of the original cables so doesn't matter if they're modular or not...

I've had the BeQuiet Pure power 11 before which is modular and done a great job, however that's £73 which is more than what your wanting to pay

thanks a lot for the reply. I've managed to grab one. Hopefully it's nice and easy to route the cables and mod them when the time comes!

Glad you managed to find the PSU before the mod intervention.

I've seen hundreds of 'hints' over the time I've been posting here, this is the first time I've seen a post deleted for a hint.

Unfortunate, I guess OCUK have decided to crack down on such things.

A better way of doing it would be by offering the same or similar products at a matching price point imo, heavy-handed moderation isn't a good look.

wow - I'm glad I did too!

I agree there - a price-match sort of approach would bring a lot of business.
The PSU in question wasn't available on OCUK, nor most other places for that matter, so it's not like they've lost something they stood to gain in that sense.

Thanks all
