I have an Enermax 600w PSU

I have the PC on 24/7, Installed in it, I have 2 Geforce 7800 GTX's 4 Hard Drives, 1 x DVDRW, AMD Duel Core 4400+ etc

I was just wondering what the overall running costs of this would be on say a quarterly electric bill as I dont know what juice the PSU takes, It is a 600W PSU but does this mean its like having 6 x 100 watt light bulbs on 24/7?

Look forward to the replies

It probably idles about 175W and under load about probably about 300W. But since PSUs aren't 100% efficient it would pull about 225W and 375W from the wall, i would imagine.

If you were running idle for 24/7 then that would be 491kWh per quarter (13 weeks) drawing 225W. Which is about £49.10 at 10p per kWh.

Under load for 24/7 is 819kWh = £81.90 per quarter

And yes 600W is equivalent to 6 x 100W lightbulbs (not taking into account losses)

omg, cheers for that, I think I better re-consider turning it off everytime I've done using it ;)
Fx-Overlord is right, a 600W PSU will not use 600W of power all the time and the 175W idle/300W load is also quite right.

As an alternative why not turn it on in the morning and turn off when you go to bed?

Also put the monitor on powersaving by letting it turn off after 5 minutes as that also uses (a lot of) power.

Also worth noting that some power companies charge a different rate at different parts of the day, check your bill to find out more. Maybe turning off your PC in the day and leaving it on at night would be a cheaper option?

I have a meter on my PC, which draws about 150Watts from a 660Watt PSU on Idle, 205 with monitor on and idle, and anywhere between 250 and 350 watt when busy. I worked out it costs roughly 50p per day to run.

LCD monitors will draw about 50 or 60 watts whilst on and about 5 watts in standby.

And some people have 2 psu's.... :o

The number of PSUs hardly makes a difference, two running efficiently at low load would probably cost less than one running inefficiently at a high load. I'm glad the cost of running a system 24/7 is fairly high, it's an enormous waste and a big problem for the environment to have computers left on for 24 hours a day if they're not being used.
