The spanish super cup is over and messi with only 3 trainnig sessions has scored 3 goals and 2 assists in 2 games. How many will he score this season?

I say 60 goals with around 20 assists

he looked like he could score if he wanted to anytime yesterday without barca playing well or even himself. he goes into max payne mode in the box, like he can move in real time and everything else slows down. incredible player and scary he's still so young! i predict he will do a goal a game on average

Yeah probably a similar amount to last season. Didn't Ronaldo score more than him last season though? Target to beat and all that.

not sure think it was pretty close, to be fair Ronaldo did very well, but like yesterday (2nd half) can go absent, where as messi may go quiet but never out the game, he seems incapable of having a bad game, his version playing bad is still as good as the average top flight footy player

Ronaldo scored more, assisted less.
Messi got rested in the league once it was won, preparing for the CL final.
Ronaldo scored 11 in those 4 games Messi missed, so there's no guarantee Messi would have scored enough to stay ahead either way.

I don't think Messi's too concerned either way, he knows and everyone else knows he brings a lot more then goals to that Barca team, he's basically a forward playmaker and striker rolled into one.

Last nights game was evidence of the different class between him and Ronaldo, imo.
Ronaldo's world class when every things going well, but his lack of team ethic and work rate means he's never going to stamp his authority on a game that Madrid are not already well onto of.
Messi on the other hand ...

If he was in the Premiership he would score around 15 goals I reckon. He would be able to compete with the physical teams like your Stoke's and Bolton's.

Yeah. Ronaldo is, and was very greedy for most of the game yesterday, shooting when it would have been better to pass etc, not tracking back. Messi got one assist and two goals, which is typical of his stats. Ronaldo tends to have more variety in his goals (left/right/head/distance/free kick) but I think most people would be mad to pick him over Messi if you had to choose between the two in a dream team, for obvious reasons. Plus of course, watching Messi run at/around half a team's defence with the ball stuck to his feet is one of modern football's greatest sights.

Ehhh, Argentina Messi is a completely different prospect to when he plays at club level and probably more indicative of how he'd perform at another club. He'd be their best player, but the people around him at Barca are a big reason why he scores and assists so many since he gets a lot of possession and service, and obviously plays alongside two (now three!) of the greatest midfielders in the game.

:o

He probably wouldn't score as many as he does in Spain as the quality of defending is better over here he'd still easily score between 25-30 though (at least). Those that think he couldn't handle the physical side of going to Stoke either A- haven't seen how much he gets kicked in Spain or B- are seriously deluded and forget a certain Ronaldo scored 42 goals over here one season

I was going to ironically post "Yeah, but none of them will be against Stoke so they don't count", only to find you've gone and beaten me to it. Gutted.

Messi would demolish Stoke. Demolish.

Because we chant it every game, have to go for not as many as Adam Lallana :D

In reality Messi would do well to beat last seasons tally...
