I don't fancy paying £50 a game for these new consoles..

So I am considering buying a new graphics card.

Current ageing spec:

i7 2600 @ 3.4GHz
8 Gigs ram
GTX 560Ti

750watt corsair PSU
Cooler Master HAF 912 Plus case

Thinking of popping in a OcUK
GeForce GTX 760 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card. (£169.99)

I game on a 27" screen @ 1920x1080.

Will i be able to play most PC games for the next 24months on High detail?
or should i face the music and get a PS4 ?

One of the new games i wish to play in May is Wolfenstein: The New Order.
I also have a few older titles to catch up on such as dishonored and metro last light.

The new consoles are not as high end as you would think.
I have a first gen i5 @4ghz and it is fine for gaming. My 6950 unlocked 2GB is a touch slow these days.

My advice:
A new graphics card would make the world of difference!
Oh and an SSD. It will make your PC feel like new - Not exaggerating either, they are awesome.

You'll be fine for a long time yet as long as you are willing to put a bit more effort in than just clicking high/ultra for your graphics settings (i.e. find out which ones hit performance way more than they should do and disable them).

I have a similar setup with a 1440p monitor and a 6970 card and I run everything I want to comfortably.

You will be fine for a long time just get a new card when you can. ;)

At least 3 years left in your CPU if you get a new card. :D

hew graphics card , motherboard and cpu imo. (you can prob reuse the memory)

forget consoles unless they have games you can't get on pc that you must have..
Even my sons 7850 has better graphics and fps than my stepsons xboxone.

I would say it depends on you, I had a PC with a 560 and although it did well at a lot of things it was quite lacking in a number of games not least because of the 1GB of vram.

I upgraded to a new PC with a 7970 and it's extra power really helps in newer games.

If you are going to upgrade do not upgrade to anything with less than 3gb of vram.

3gb of vram for gaming at 1920x1080 ?

interesting.

That CPU will be fine for at least 2 more years but if you want high detail you need a GTX780 or higher 760/770 are budget cards not suited to high settings @ 1080P more like medium in most recent games.

Pay the extra for a decent GTX780 or GTX780Ti.

I just upgraded my PC from old Q9400 and 7850 to a i5 4670 and 7970 with 8gig 1600mhz ram and it now runs battlefield 4 at ultra, super sweet, I'm very happy. Come payday my final piece a ssd drive, I can't wait. : ) my 7970 has 3gig ram also.

So the 760 / 770 are bit rubbish ?

my current GTX 560ti plays Skyrim at ultra setting (8xaa) with high res texture pack fine.

I turned aa off and it didnt seem any worse so i can live without aa at 1920x1080.

MSI 280X £200 today deals.

And that PC will last you a good while.

Plus I disagree with the above comment about the 770 being a budget card only good for Medium settings, with your CPU you should see high, even ultra settings.

I know as I have a 770 but i'm running an overclocked 3770k so I'm running ultra settings on most games above 60fps (For the exception of Arma 3 and DayZ)

Graphics card yes, anything else - no. However, it's a crime not to overclock a K series CPU.

sorry i should have said i want to stick with Nvidia :D

Going Nvidia really limits your choices of card, I would recommend going 3GB if you want the card to last a few years.

The card that Uncle Gravy has recommended will be a great card for you and will be great for 1080 gaming and the 770 definitely is not a low end card. The problem with the 770 is that it is expensive and only tends to come with 2GB of ram and 4GB models cost way to much.

Do you have a budget?
