Been thinking of upgrading to the 30D for a while now (since I heard about it it took over my desire for a 20D). But in order to see if I can afford to do it I was trying to work out what the value of my current equipment would be...

I'd be selling:
1 year old perfect condition 350d with kit lens.
256mb Compact flash(sandisk)
Battery Grip
Extra battery (official canon)

I have all the boxes, manuals and cds etc that came with everything... What do you reckon? I've had a guess and its just about what i'd be willing to part with it for but wanted to see what others think. Cheers!

Maybe i should just bite the bullet and put it up far sale, too much umming and erring! Thing is I dont want to sell cheap because its all great kit, but then i dont know what the going rate is for this kinda stuff second hand. I tried to check ebay but its just full of HK sellers... I know the sensible thing is pick a price that I think is right and just use that but I like to get as much information as possible first.

Can I ask why you're considering the upgrade?

Of course! Amongst other things, I want the 5fps. Whenever I go away to take pictures snowboarding/mountain biking I would like the extra speed. Also I do a lot of night time photography and the lower noise as well as auto dark frame removal would come in handy. Also the larger dynamic range would be good too.

I dont expect the camera to be a huge improvement, which is why i wont sell my current equipment cheaply as what I have is great stuff.

I also made the classic mistake, i was in a shop today looking at the 24-105 f4 lens. The only one they had was part of the 5d kit so they let me have a look at it, on the 5d of course! The extra field of view from the full frame was very nice and just the whole feel of the camera was awsome!!! The pair coming in at £2100 was very tempting but its a lot to spend for something quite above what I need! But then it would be awsome. I had to run away fast.

I know exactly how you feel as I have both the 350 and the 5D!

The 350D is a great camera but the 5D outclasses it and so it should for the cost. Notice how much heavier the 5D is?

There is a general rule when selling and buying items such as this.

With a 'Trader' involved you will be offered 1/3 original purchase price, and he would offer it for sale for 2/3 original price.
From that I guess you could offer it for say 3/4 and be prepared to sell for 1/2 privately

Back in Feb this year I came across an Olympus E300 2 lens kit together with
Digital Flash , Battery grip, 3 batteries a Cokin filter all in a read me - no competitors Fastnet case
on E-bay -I guess total value must have been in the region of £950/1000 new
It could not have been more than a year old.
It was on E-bay - Natch I threw in a bid, and forgot about it.
2 days later an E-mail from Ebay - My bid 'Had won' - £485.

I just upgraded from the 20d to the 30d, well worth it.

I did the upgrade for the bigger LCD size. Worth it for that alone.

I originally went from the 300d to the 20d and the difference is massive, just the feel and weight.
