How much better is HDMI?

I swapped from VGA to HDMI and havent really noticed a difference, maybe slighter different colour as mentioned, both are considerably better than component though.

a bit OT but what is the cheapest people have seen the VGA cables for?

im still using the HD cable you get with the premium and think its time i got a better cable.

Why does everyone have the sharpness set to full :rolleyes:

Maximum sharpness does not mean you get a good picture. On my tv sharpness is at the minimum value, and for the other tv settings threads I have seen, I don't think any recommend a tv being set too max.

Well for me it looks way better especially on games which have no/little jaggies. Everything just looks way clearer, you can see more detail in the environments, textures...etc

over doing the sharpness controls also causes halo's around objects and strange effects in soft masses of colour, like smoke for example.

That's the results of a sharpening filter, like if the sharpness setting adds the filter at high settings. Not all of them will.

is hdmi like compnent in that it gives a res of 1280 720 ?

i used to use component because of better colours but changed to vga because of less blurred upscaled looking textures dont have the option of hdmi anyway

yes this i why i said over doing it causes this. its far easier on my screen because normal sharpness is 0. i find it hard to believe that any display doesnt cause artfacts when its pushed up to maximum unless the nominal sharpness is way up on the scale, but fair enough if they do.

I`ve got the 32" Hanspree too, and I find that the HDMI gives me a slightly better picture, but like most people say its a matter of personal taste. Everything seems just a bit sharper to me.

Think I'll be trying HDMI on my new elite (unfortunately having to unplug the PS3 HDMI cable every time I want to play it grrr) and fingers crossed it looks better than component did. Component does seem to look a bit jaggy but also sharp at the same time - maybe too sharp so hopefully HDMI will be a little softer on the edges :)

This will be on a 32" Samsung and I will be sat around half a metre from the TV. Still can't work out whether to choose 720p or 1080i, I really cant see much difference on component.

HDMI will be as sharp at best but more than likely sharper.
