How much better is this than my current processor?

I've been thinking about a jump to i5 for a while, but the jump would set me back over £250, I was wondering how good is this CPU?

AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 965 Black Edition "125W Edition" 3.40GHz (Socket AM3)

how much better is it than my;

AMD Bulldozer FX-4 Quad Core 4100 Black Edition 3.60GHz (Socket AM3+)

??

I can max most games @ 1080p with my current build but rarely go over 40fps, how much of an FPS boost would the Phenom be? I know the Bulldozer is pretty bad.

My motherboard is: Asus M5A78L-M LX AMD 760G (Socket AM3+) DDR3 MicroATX

So would I be able to just slip the Phenom II X4 into that processor? It is AM3 whereas my Mobo is AM3+

I run a XFX HD 6850 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card and intend to upgrade to a HIS HD 7850 IceQ X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card.

The reason I ask is because an i5 can be in the future for me, as at the minute I'd prefer to just pay £90 for a considerably better processor than £250 for an i5, one day I'll hit Intel but that'll be when I'm better at not wasting my money! :D

Thanks!

Aha, but personally I think you'd be better going a very dark green colour. :D

Nah, AMD have great bang for their buck, a lot of Nvidia cards that are 2GB cost more than AMD that are 4GB, and lets face it, those 2GB aren't better than the AMD. Nvidia are just overpriced and underpowered for their price. AMD are underpriced and overpowered for their price.

Unless Darwin's law doesn't apply to cards and the 2GB are somehow better than the 4GB. :p

You have so much to learn.

7970s are basically a bargain though. £299
Yea and GTX670 was at £280 at one point. The fact remain is their current pricing is still higher than the 6970 and GTX570 in the last gen.

If the 7970 was £299 (rather than £450) at launch then...yea, but it only reach this price when we are getting close to next gen doesn't see as appealing as can be.
