Right I've looked through the eBay help pages and on Google but I'm getting no answers.

I want to list a mountain bike on eBay with a starting bid of £1050 and a BIN of £1500 but how much commision will eBay take on the final price of this?

Sorry if this is a silly question, but I can't find an answer anywhere :(

Cheers, found it just after posting :p

What happens if I get a none-buying bidder at this price? I haven't listed on eBay in years so don't know how it works :(

Max £40 I think.

Of course there is always a chance that you will get some scammer who files and item not as described case against you, eBay sides with the buyer and you recieve a unicycle back. In which case the ebay fees will be somewhat irrelevant.

Well I'm listing the item as collection only and only accepting bankers draft/cash/bank transfer as payment so PayPal fees shouldn't be an issue :)

Isn't paypal a required method on eBay now? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, whilst listing outside of eBay may avoid fees and such (e.g. gumtree) it won't net the full potential value of the bike. As long as you're an honest seller, eBay don't just side with the buyer any more. A lot more effort has gone into cracking down rogue users.

Well there seems to be an option to remove PayPal from my list of accepted payment methods so hopefully shouldn't be an issue with that.... Hopefully :p

But many buyers on ebay will not buy items if they can't pay for it by paypal....

That includes myself on a lot of items as posting cheques etc is to much hassle..:p

Offer it as cash on collection only, when they pick it up ask them to agree to cancel the transaction. Initiate the cancellation of the transaction, wait for buyer to agree through ebay and get your £40 final value fee back.

Maximum target audience. Maximum profit

It's not right, but it's clever. Play ebay at their own game. They rob you for charging £40 to sell a bike, you rob em back by using their service for free.

they don't let you not offer paypal anymore afaik

sold my macbook. got raped by ebay and paypal then the guy noticed a fault that id never noticed. being a model ebayer i let him return it. ebay won't drop the fees. its now at the point where they've banned me from ebay with my 150 odd selling feedback and double that buying feedback. all positive. cheers ebay

Have you tried Gumtree? Thats where I bought my last 3 bikes. Its free so worth a try, nothing to lose.

I used to use ebay to sell everything years ago...now I only buy, and sell high value items, such as mobile phones, on gumtree :)
