How much data do I need?

Hi all,

Due to upgrade but I am going sim only as my P20 is still perfectly fine.

We purchased a caravan earlier in the year so have been using the phone when we go away to use as a hot-spot.

10gb isn't quite cutting it but not sure if unlimited is overkill.

EE have offered

100gb - 14 a month
200gb - 17.50 a month
Unlimited - 21 a month.

I am thinking 200gb should be enough but then would 100gb do the job?

Currently paying £28 a month so dropping the bill in half is quite tempting.

How much data would you use for say a movie a night? Or streaming a few hours a day of TV?

Thanks

Was trying to see what I use in broadband at home, can't see though. Can't be much more than 100gb pm watch 4k Netflix, Amazon etc....
200gb should be more than enough, especially as I suspect you won't be streaming 4k TV?

200gigs is a lot you'd need quite of few hours of HD videos to get through that, 100gigs should be enough. The only way I could use 100gigs is watching twitch all day.

I checked and last month we used 410gb but we literally stream everything... Live TV, kids TV, radio etc we are wasteful so things are on even if we aren't watching either!

The longest we would be in the caravan is 3 weeks at most... Its not like we are stuck on our phones / tablets all the time either.

Just as I typed I have found three are offering unlimited for £16 a month... May end up just going with that to be honest.

Surely you've just answered your own question then?

Tend to download stuff and playback on the TV in my van at night as signal can be ropey in fields middle of nowhere at some sites, but often sites have reasonable wifi, so will use a mix of that and phone, I would say you don't need more than 100Gb unless you never leave you van and just watch TV.

If you have Sky and play back things like UHD you will use loads of data, I do terabytes a month just on the Sky box.

Check the coverage first where you frequently go. EE has the advantage of having a well established 4G network due to the emergency services contract.

Decided to go with EE @ 100gb per month.

I have done with 10gb for past 2 years and I think servicing every day for me is worth more than a cheaper unlimited contract.

Still saved myself £15 a month so pretty happy with that.

Is that £14 for the first 3/6 months or something? I just upgraded my plan which was:

50GB 4G
90Mbps maximum speed
18 month contract
£20 a month (with £156 cashback)

To:
100GB 5G
Unlocked speed
24 month contract
£20 a month

It's a bummer they don't offer 12 month contracts any more, at least I didn't see any listed on the upgrade offers page but the same price for double the data I won't say no to and I've had no issues with EE since joining them so am happy sticking with them. Most months I'd get close to 30GB usage as I'd watch YouTube etc on the commute to and from work but since March that's been all WFH so WiFi all day long and my data usage has gone way down lol.
