Behind the camera...
hi :)

I've ordered a new CPU and just want to know if I will get a noticable difference compared to my current setup,
I'm getting really bad FPS on battlefield bad co. 2 (45fps on a good day)

My Current system...

High power 750w Quad rail PSU (high power is the manufacture)
Asus M4A77 MB
AM2 AMD Athlon 64 dual core 5000+ 2.6Ghz
Gainward 260 GTX Golden Sample 896mb 216SP
4Gb Crucial DDR2 800Mhz (possible to bo OC'ed)
Seagate Sata II 500Gb 7200rpm

I've ordered an Am3 AMD Phenom II quad core 955 Black Edition 3.20Ghz
From what I have read the 5000+ is bottlenecking my GPU hence the Phenom purchase

Will this resolve my FPS? or should I go back to consoles lol

Cheers

I've got an phenom II 550 x2 which I can unlock to a B50 x4, and the difference between the dual and quad is definitley noticable. I'm talking about bc2 in particular, it just feels smoother. I reckon you will see hell of a difference, or should I say feel?

I don't think 45FPS is too bad, obviously it all depends on your settings etc. I'm sure you will see some improvement but I wouldn't have thought a great deal. You'd have been better clocking your Athlon to 3.0+ and getting a GTX 460 or something along those lines i would have thought!

lol I know I know consoles are bad, hence the lol :p

Hoping so,

The 45 FSP is on full spec and it fluctuates pretty badly down to like 30, and if I even just say fraps to it while in a game i'm lucky to hit double figures (Full Fraps, not demo)

I was going to get a 555 dual core and use the core unlocker on the M4A77 but i'd rather buy a purpose built cpu, plus its a black ed so I might be able to push it abit further :)

Seriously though

I've just upgraded my smallest rig from a Athlon 64 II 4800 to a Phenom II X3 720BE (both running at stock) and the CPU performance is very noticeable, perhaps something to do with the L3 cache?

Just made a quick call to a gaming clan mate "up north", he's running a SLI 260GTX set up with a Q8300 and his frame rates are approx 65fps in BFBC2. So perhaps the 260GTX
is a limiting factor here as well ? :)
