My s7 costs 9ppm

Its getting slow and battery is now dire.

What do you have to spend to get a noticeably better camera?

Everything else I don't care about except it must be water proof.

The flag ships are too much. Nothing is going to be worth 40ppm more.

Its very difficult when you're on 9ppm as everything is much more expensive.

I'm open to second hand!

Really I need the ip rating for short term /tempora submerge for piece of mind.

It really is the only important other feature. I don't care about 5g, 4k etc at all

What's your budget? You're probably best buying/importing a handset (possibly a Chinese phone) and then carrying on with a cheap sim-only deal.

I don't know. I guess the flag ships are 1k plus. This is too much.

600 is too much outright , not if it can be spread via a contact.

Reall , it will depend on worth.
If there's a camera out there that blows the s7 away in happy to pay more.

Was tempted by a p40 but the Google removal is too much hassle

I take it you have a car? Insurance with the bank that covers car breakdown and mobile insurance.

Then get the 4A.

Problem with that is it doesn't cover second hand.

Also, mines going to get wet from kayaking etc. I know you can get cases, but it's so much less worry when it's waterproof.

OK that's something to go on, lets say £300-500.
  • Pixel 4a - great camera and software but no IP rating, from £349
  • S20 - big step up from your S7 and you will feel at home, high refresh rate scree, IP rating, with a bit of luck you can get one for around £550 (e.g. 2nd hand but never used)
  • Note10 - similar to the above and can be had for under £500 in good condition

An s20?

If I could get one for 500 used that would be great.

If you don't mind second hand then most of S10 range can be had for well under £400. I went from S7 Edge to S10e and apart from me getting an absolute battery life Exynos lemon, solid upgrade all round.

Even most new midrange phones under £400 will be excellent although quite a few lack official IP rating. Most still are waterproof but simply lack the certification.

Any idea s20 vs s10 camera performance?

Nothing revolutionary in that department between the two, S20 does have the high refresh screen for that extra smooth user experience and rest are mostly small incremental improvements. One more year of software suppport too obviously and headphone jack has been removed on the S20 if that's important to you.

Oh. That's important.
I forgot about headphone port. That might be the decision maker. My iems are wired!

Pixel 5.

It's 600 but you get a pair of QC35s which you can offload for a minimum of 100 quid.

There you have it. A phone that fits your specific needs.

Been looking at this and the Samsung fe.

Leaning towards fe actually due to camera

Can't decide between

Used s10 (something) due to headphone port
S20fe
Pixel 5

Leaning towards one of the Samsungs
Maybe an old s10 5g.

Pixel 5 if camera is the only concern.
If you are OS agnostic wait to see what the cheaper iphone 12 offers.

Any reason why?

I've found some specs. And on paper the s20 fe is better across the board

I know specs affect everything with photography.

Also. The rest of the specs seem basically no different. Both ip68, both lack headphone jack

I think I'll have to wait for pics to come from the fe and pixel 5.

Hard to ignore the 3x optical on Samsung. But a lot are saying pixel

Pixel is mostly due to Google's post processing, it's a lot better than everyone else, even with the "inferior" hardware it still ends up with better pictures thanks to it. This is why you get a lot of people porting GCam to other phones as it can vastly improve photo quality.

Thanks for that. This Make a lot of sense. You can make. Par photo look pretty damn good with the right editing skills.

Ill wait until this is out if pics are amazing. Then might be a winner.

Apart from optical camera specs are close enough that editing is more important
