Right, come end of November getting my backdated pay rise and bonus from work. Have always wanted a laptop, don't do a lot of travelling but my computer is in a seperate room so would be nice to be anywhere and be able to use it.

I would mainly want to use it for browsing, listening to music and watching movies/TV shows. I may occasionally download something on it but no gaming to speak of.

How much do I need to spend to get a decentish laptop that runs smoothly as my desktop for the above tasks. My desktop is just a AMD64 3200, 1GB Ram, running XP. I see with most laptops you get Vista which I wouldn't mind trying at all only problem is I know it requires a fair bit more oomph to run smoothly.

How much do I need to buy a laptop that meets the above requirements.

For the tasks you've specified I'd say you could spend about £400/£450 and get something that performs pretty nicely (if not faster than your desktop). You'd want 2gb if it's coming with vista and if you look around you should get a dual core cpu and still have low costs.
Even if you got something with only 1gb memory, it's so cheap now that you could always just buy a 2gb kit afterwards. :)

Any recent integrated graphics will work nicely.
