This was the company I had my bad experience with, I have to give it to them their prices are amazing though...
 
Possible - but that amount of money could get a rig of similar performance for a lot less... e6700 is a big part of £1700 and an unneeded one at that - :) build yourself and you'll get a more tailored system and probably a couple hundred cheaper :)
 
Thats the problem, its a custom build, drop bar selection, no prices until you click the button at the bottom...I would have to change the items and keep totaling it to work out the component prices..Not something I want to do...

If you've read my previous posts you'll know the problems I had with this company..But I'm still drawn to how cheap their custom pcs are..

In the end I bought the ultima one from here, but now they sell it with the new 8800 card...

Very happy with it too:)

Rubbish retailers rely on people to say stuff like that..if the problems in your other thread are true why would you want to give that retailer your money again?

I guess so, but all the components are good components with the exception of the PSU and case.

My point was that if u bought the components urself it still comes out to near enough or more then the price they quote..

They do have a testimonials page, I was gonna post a nasty one on there, but obviously its screened so no point..

They do seem to have a lot of happy customers, dont know how many unhappy customers, maybe I was just unlucky...Just wanted some opinions on their pricing..

The thing they let me down was on the building of it and testing, making sure it worked correctly..

Still even now with what I went thru,when I just spec one up for fun, I'm impressed with the pricing..

No one else quite impressed though witht the price of that spec?
 
I know which company you are speaking of. Their price is good but I don't like their delivery time, takes a bit too long IMO. But if you are looking for a pre-built system without having urself doing the job etc then i guess you can buy from them, not much difference anyway ;p

Arguably the most important part of the system is your PSU. NEVER EVER skimp on your PSU, if your PSU is a crappy one and it dies then its bye-bye nice new system :( i.e. it will probably take a few components with it. To be honest would it not be better and more challenging to build it yourself? Plus you could probably save yourself some money here and there?

Yeah I've thought about that before..

I've been tempted, but I've never actually built one myself before...I know my way round connecting things up HD, optical, fx cards ram etc etc... The only thing I wouldn't be confident is in installing the CPU, cpu heatsinks,fans etc..As you hear people say just a bit of debris,dust material get between the chip and mobo or chip and heatsink, can mess things up big time. If its a pc for myself, its not gonna be a cheap one, the prospect of the cpu going bang is something I'd be worried about, and thats if its not even taking out any other components.

Think I just need enough people saying its easy..

But another things thats kept me from self build is when u've put it all together, there's some instability issue. And you have to invest a lot of time to eliminate all the possibilities to what it could be..As one person put it, I have more spare money than spare time..( I wouldn't really say spare money but you get the point, I would rather pay a bit extra for someone to make sure it was stable, but obviously theres a limit to what 'a bit extra is).. I was tempted this way round until I found that company could actually spec the whole pc for a price cheaper or equal to build it myself, with a 3 year warranty. But as advised later u really dont need 3 years..

Its been a learning curve anyway, and when my current PC becomes outdated, I'll consider self build again then, with more knowledge.. Since I joined these boards, I have to admit,its a very good resource for help and advice...

PS..That PSU is a FSP Sparkle, they're ok from what I read, not the best but not exactly s***..The case wasnt bad either, was actually easier to work in than the ANtec gaming one I have now..

Thanks for the replies, just wanted to hear some opinions on their pricing amongst other stuff..

Building yourself is no more a risk then having Bob or Joe at the store build it for you.

The only catch with building yourself is there's always that chance (as with every builder) that something will arrive faulty or DOA, and its down to personal know how and wether you have spare parts to narrow down which part is at fault then making an RMA.

I've received 1 faulty item from Ocuk, and i had a new one with me within 3 days iirc.

Thats not to say it cant happen with a prebuilt, it happened on the 1st PC i had built for me by a local comp shop, it was a P3 with a CDRW (back when they were fairly new) and the hard drive failed within the first week.

The same risks apply at the end of the day.

Like has been said though, why would you give a company money thats given you previous crap service, regardless of prices. I'd rather pay extra to use a better company then re-use someone i know i've had bad experience with.
 
Yeah, I know, I guess when the dusts settled, and thinking I was a one off, u can become quite fickle when it comes to saving at least £500 compared to every other PC company..I got my money back anyway..They did offer me a free upgrade to Vista, but I didnt want it , not that it wouldve worked on that setup, as I already tried Vista 64bit, couldnt install, then boot to windows for 1st time..

Anyways, it'll either be self build or OC pre-built next time.. I waited a month for mine from them, 20working days..And thats not waiting for their PSUs to arrive, plus paying for Saturday delivery as it was ready on a friday..

Ordered from OC Monday, got it Tuesday, was wondering what it was, it arrived so quick I didnt think it would be the pc..

The risk I was worrying about is if you break a component when building, thats not covered is it? I know some components are a tight fit to say the least, and your fingers literally bleed by trying to fit something in..Guess its part of the fun:)

In those circumstances its down to the buyer to make sure the parts fit.

Honestly its not hard to get measures and an oversight on the customer side shouldnt be at the cost of the supplier. Harsh when its said just like, but i think its a fair call from any supplier/etailer. You wouldnt buy a 2 seater sports car then expect o change it because you realised you didnt account for the kiddies needing a ride to...... not the best analogy but i hope you see my point.

If you ever have doubts, ring them and say " I'm ordering xxx, xxx and xxx, will they fit and work together". If the person the other end says yes and something doesnt fit, the company is then obligated to rectify the problem since their member of staff said the parts would work or fit together..... ;)

Otherwise the ball is in your court......

I've rang ocuk i think 4 times in the time i've been using them, each time i've made sure i had all the facts about what i'm calling in regard to and the person at the other end of the phone has done everything i'd expect from a supplier. In that sense i can understand how it feels when someone rings and has no idea what they are doing and starts making assumptions that something is faulty when they've done nothing to test their belief.

As i said before though, if thet stiff me over once, they lose my trade, its as simple as that. I think thats a fair deal.
 
Yeah true, I did/do feel that way once bitten twice shy and all that..

I meant tight fits as regards to ram slots and AGP slots..but it seems they all fit snug nowadays..I was referring to computers from years ago, like P3 500, lol, I just remember cards and ram in those buggers, in those cases, (can I say gateway as they no longer sell in the UK, those u can slice,cut up your fingers, removing,putting things in..
