Curious really...currently in a position where i just need to be more careful and save money each month rather than burning it all away.

So how much do you save?

I guess a % of your income per month would be helpful!

I am on 30k and aiming to save 400 this month...did it once before but not in a few months due to various events such as weddings, stag dos etc.

Just need a bit of motivation...!

£200 into an ISA (maximum deposit allowed)
£200 into a savers' account
£120 into private pension

Earn merely 20k~ (not including bonuses), bachelor's life with no dependants

If you make a budget and really analyze your recent outgoings, you may be surprised at how much unnecessary expenditure you've been making, especially if you've never really monitored it that closely before. I'm not saying live like a monk, but so many people stand to make an enormous difference with just a little bit more awareness.

Not enough really - I throw about 2-3 grand into an ISA a couple of times a year or so not worked out what it averages.

We save about 40% of our combined income, that was going to pay off the mortgage but now that is done it is just going into a savings account for the time being. That excludes about 14% that goes into penson.

Between the 2 of us we save 60% of our income. Our mortgage is dirt cheap though and we're currently putting all our cash towards increasing the deposit on our next one.

Having no kids or the desire to have kids has been a massive help!

Effectively nothing. :(

Between mortgage, bills, holidays, birthdays and Christmas I end up living pay cheque to pay cheque.

To be fair though it's all gone on Florida this year. It's a once in a life time thing, my wife has another operation on her eye soon and if it fails then "that's it for her" says the surgeon.

If I average it out this year I've probably spent more per month than I've earned, before that however I saved the best part of ten grand over the course of around 2 years so around £400-450 a month.

Around £500 / month on average excluding pensions (that comes out of our payroll), sometimes higher due to work bonuses and others lower (holidays etc).

Family of 4 with a mortgage and childcare to pay for. It's approx 10% of our combined income.

Between my wife and i, we have been saving ~ £1000 / month for the last 3 years, although, we've used a lot of it on travel as that's what it was, for, we've been saving more recently though as we're emigrating to NZ soon.

Motivate yourself by mentally categorising pension contributions and the capital element of any mortgage you pay as savings

On paper I save very little, but I add those 2 in, and it all looks much better - those 2 alone are 22% of my take home...but I am quite old and determined not to take a mortgage into retirement

Dual income, living in leeds, no kids. You don't have to be earning all that much to be able to save much more than the vast majority of people.

£400-£500 quid then :)

Its more that I've not really bothered my head about the whole subject - I've got a bit coming in from dividends and interest/returns on other savings, etc. as well - I've been far too casual about it really but my life has been so uneven financially its been a bit hard to get into any one habit of dealing with money.
