I was having a look thought my step counter app and was surprised how much I walk at work.

I only live a 6 min walk from work so this is mostly done walking around at work.

Or are the step counters not accurate?

Numbers don't add up at all.....

16839 steps= 17.99km walked.
19220 steps= 23.93km walked
19481 steps= 19.66km walked

Bin said app, they all bull anyway. ;)

Quick edit....

One normal adult human step is 1 meter.

I assume it gets the data from the GPS ? But it could be wrong.

Scivz that's a lot in a short time. Mine is also around the hospital

Looks like you need to up your game on Thursdays :p

As for me, I don't really know and it varies a LOT. I might have a paperwork day which will be a mile or two, but a client facing day I could probably top 30 miles easily.

I've never found the step counter on my phone to be at all accurate. Mostly they just work off GPS which can think you are moving when you are not.

I got a Garmin Vivofit as a hand me down which seems to be much more accurate. I can count 200 steps and it'll normally count within a couple of percent.

Normally I do about 20K steps at work if I'm on Zip Trekking or Tree Top Adventure. On segways or cabin it's around 7K.

Vivofits are fantastic, I just gave mine to the plonker in the Photoshop thread because I'm a lard arse and it's wasted on me.

The main corridor in our hospital is a 3rd of a mile long mate. Everything else just runs off it so your just always going from one end to the other. Whoever designed it was an idiot.

I work at a desk all day everyday, looking at the step counter on my phone it seems to range from between 3500 - 6000. The variance will be dependant on if I need to go see someone on a different floorplate or if I have meetings etc.

I bus it to/from work, and it's a half-mile walk from the bus station to work, so a mile a day. My role is desk-bound, so don't really do much there except for 1 mins walk there/back from the canteen at lunch time.

What the OP is using looks like a pedometer. I used to have one of those... small thing that clips to your waist. I presume the OP's is internet-ready with the graphs and all that.

Since working in an office, if I do the bare minimum in a day, i.e. drive to and from work, stay in the office at lunch and don't do much else in the evening my steps can be as low as 4000. A walk at lunch will push that up to around 6000 and if I don't go to the gym and go for a walk or jog as cardio around 12 - 15,000 steps.

Think i'll do well here, i'm a chef and do a lot of walking at work...

I imagine that not every step will be the same size ;)
