How much does a GPU effect things like Photoshop?

I am going to be building a new PC for work as my current Dell Optiplex i3 is lagging (I can't believe how much prices have increased over the past year).

Anyway, as well as general office stuff, I spend a lot of time in Photoshop and regularly have 3 or 4 large Photoshop files open. As we are a design and print business, I frequently have artwork for 2000mm long banners (and longer) to work on, so need to make sure a pc can handle this without issues.

So, I'm just wondering how much significance a GPU has on how well things like Photoshop run and is it worth forking out for a particular GPU?

Not a lot.

The GTX 1050 2GB looks like the sweet spot.

The only thing I can think of is maybe a 10bit output for viewing the files? Not sure how important other than output the gpu would be. Not much processing to be done via the GPU.

I'm also not sure which GPU's now have 10 bit output. Once upon a time it used to be just Quadro cards, but maybe the 10xx serious now have the ability?

Thanks. I've always had low-ish end AMD gpu's in the past purely for dual monitor setup. Will have a look at the GTX1050's.

A GPU helps a lot, you just don't need a lot of GPU for the help.

In Photoshop the GPU won't affect anything but GPU enabled filters / effects and other GPU accelerated features.

As long as the GPU has enough memory to draw the screen (even integrated will these days) then adding more GPU power will only effect the above.

You will gain more performance with large overall system RAM and a quick, separate and dedicated scratch disk.
