I'm currently looking for a new house, damp coursing never crossed my mind before, has anyone had it done or done it themselves? How much does it usually cost and is it a massive long job or just a few days?

my dad once did it i think on this house we currently live in. It took him ages but thats as it was on a room we didnt really need so it was always last on the list of things that needed to be done. Probably take a week or two if you really put your mind too it. He hired this big machine thing out drilled loads of holes in the wall and then put this thing into the holes and then that pumped something into the walls i think. As you can tell i can't remember what it all was but you dont need to pay anyone to do it, unless your really bad at DIY. Walls in that room have been fine ever since.

uhh....a house should have a damp proof membrane as standard for the building regs in the uk iirc.

I'm not too sure whether the injectable fluid types are actually worth it, even though the fluid is injected under pressure I can't see it making much difference unless your walls are really porous.

A friend of my girlfriend is having her place done, its costing £900, her dad is a builder and is plastering the walls afterwards (sripped the walls to brick now) so im guessing its a messy job. as to how long...well its gonna take place next week and cant guess whether it be a day or more sorry :)

I had to have one done in my kitchen before I bought my house - IIRC it was about 700 quid (for the room) which was the cheapest of several quotes. It took about a week, but it was the disruption which was worse, they had to take everything out (cupboards, wall fittings etc) and then they plastered over it so we had to wait ages for the plaster to dry before we could decorate.

Edit: We had to provide documentation to the bank to prove it had been a professional job and we hadn't done it ourselves. THey wanted the 25 year guarantee that comes with it as it covered it for the life of the mortgage. Worth checking out first if you're getting a mortgage :)

ah well hers is over 3 walls, afaik it wasnt the cheapest quote (£900) but she needed some kind of certification so that it would count if she ever decides to resell her house.

that's it exactly, that's why people have to be careful if they do it themselves. We found a guy who had a cancellation so wanted to fill the week and we wanted it done asap so we were quite lucky really.
