How much extra would you pay for digital download?

I recently bought Streetfighter 4 through STEAM, paying a whopping £12 more than the cheapest 'disk' price I saw -- just because I hate games on DVD nowadays and - perhaps controversially - personally love what STEAM offers..

This is the biggest price difference I've ever stretched to for having a game on steam rather than the same game on DVD.

Just out of interest -- my question is 2-fold

1) Do you prefer STEAM (and equivelents), or getting a DVD and nice glossy manual etc. in your hand when you buy a game?
2) Which ever option you chose for (1), how much extra hard wodja are you prepared to lose to get your purchase in the format you want? If you found it 50p cheaper in your 'less prefered option' (be it DVD or digital download) are you gonna compromose your choice of purchase format for 50p extra change in your back pocket? No? £1? £5? £15?

Just out of interest really ..

I personally prefer getting a disk, as I love the 'new game' smell, and being able to read the manual on the loo. However, I can also see the advantages with Steam, eg no space taken up, autoupdating etc.

I tend to just go for the cheapest, although if both are at the same price I will go for the boxed version.

I would only download if doing this was cheaper than getting the boxed version.

At the minute for some reason whatever pre-orders i make are always DVD/CD and spur of the moment purchases are through steam/D2D and to answer the questions....

1. prefer steam even though i do still get DVD/CD's
2. I wouldnt pay more than £10 more i dont think

I have no real preference either way, and I will always buy a game from wherever it is cheapest. Though saying that, if they are both exactly the same price I would probably go for the boxed version.

I generally don’t buy games that aren’t on steam anymore. I have paid as much as £10 more for games on steam.

I just find it much more convenient not having to mess around with the disk/CD key and it makes patches far easier.

I wouldn't, I don't do Digital Downloads. I prefer to have something tangible when I'm paying for it, not just a collection of 0s & 1s.

I'd expect a downloaded version of a game to be less. I certainly wouldn't pay anything extra for one.

I have a habbit of wanting things right here right now, and living a good 20 mins drive out of town at the moment il normally grab a game on steam instead.

I'd never pay more for a digital download than a hard copy, in fact I expect a chunky discount to reflect the reduced cost of selling it this way!

Agreed, no physical disc, manual, etc, digital download should be cheaper and I would only choose it if it was

same here - though I'll use Impulse too :)

I wouldn't pay any extra, If it isn't the same price I'll go for physical, if it's cheaper I'll still probably go for physical. Only way I go for Digital download is if it's the only option or it's atleast 30% cheaper.

I will buy a physical copy even if it's more if you get Ltd/Special editions.

digital all the time !!!!

there arent many 'must have now' games released so i dont mind waiting a few months and grabbing them from steam/D2D/Impulse for buttons ..

i also dont want boxes and clutter, theres simply no need !

I never buy physical copies of games, only Steam downloads or CD-keys + grab the ISO. Don't like messing about with discs of any sort.
If a physical copy was cheaper by a chunk I'd get that but I'd probably never touch the disc itself.

If there's not much in it, I'd always go for a digital copy. As much as I love having a nice box, etc. I'd rather not have to faff with keys, and having to swap disks to play a game.

Double click to launch is the way it should go.

Ideally I'd love to have a hard copy that could be activated on Steam, like Dow2 was.

This is why I like Telltale Games's model. Digital download as each episode comes out, then when all is said and done, you can get the disk shipped to you for just the price of postage.
