Had a small xmas bonus at work. currently got a 8800gts 640mb.
running crysis at 1680x1050 with a 2.8ghz dual core.

Can run crysis at high settings, some med on dx9 with some slowdown.

Question is.. is it worth upgrading to the new GTS, what sort of speed increase will I see. fps wise??

Just check out reviews around the net. Most of the good ones have the GTS 640 and also the G92 GTS in the graphs for comparison.

In terms of crysis well:

Slightly different resolution and settings (ie medium not high) but the difference is quite pronounced.

scooby your in the same boat as me im going to wait till the new cards are out feb time your hardly going to notice much difference

cheers

It's about 3 or 4 fps better than an 8800gt stock for stock.
Crysis everything high post processing medium 1680-1050 g92 8800 gts = 34fps
8800gt same settings 30 fps

moved up from a 640mb gts to the new gts 512mb, far better card i mainly play cod 4 everything on high @1920x1200 4xaa average frame rate 90 fps with my old 640 gts i got about 50 at the same res and settings

£140 for a 640? man.. it's not like they are lame cards, why such the fuss to get rid at any cost? I would have kept the card and O/C'd.

My mates brought the new 8800gts G92 and ive done some testing.
Clocked my current 8800gts to 920/1800.

Tried crysis with the same setup and same point in the game and i was only 1fps below that of my mate using the new g92 8800gts.

I did also overclock my processor to 2.8ghz, his is running at 2.65ghz.

Decided that its not worth the money upgrading to the new G92, the old 8800gts clocks like crazy and is still up to the job of running crysis.

Moved from 640 to the 512 version, was very much worth the £215 paid considering I sold old GTS for £185. I'm happy with the fps diff ive seen in all games when compared to the former overclocked GTS at 650/1500/1950, so overclocking G92 version should reap rewards even more so, when i and if i feel the need.

Same here. I sold my 640 gts for 200 before the GT came out then picked up new GTS on release day for 220 and well happy with it much better.

BTW 2.66ghz is bottlenecking scoobys mates one>

How not 1 FPS could.

Add 1 FPS to game each time and see when it becomes ok (IMO ideally for most fast games 30FPS Min), same in reverse, plays fine at 30, but will 29 be fine, ok will 28 be fine :p

Seriously 20% is 1/5th so 25FPS + 5FPS = 30FPS Could make a world of difference. :)
