How much fluid do I need? Also, Mayhems, or water?

I'm just about to order from OCUK and I'm just wondering how much fluid I should get. It's for a 240mm rad, EK150 res, and heatkiller block, in an Antec 300. CPU cooling only.

Also, most of the pointers on here seem to aim towards distilled water and a silver killcoil. Now, I want red, so I'm considering the Mayhems pre-mixed (as there are no dyes in stock) and would it be correct to assume I could then add Mayhems H20 or (distilled water) to the premixed at a later date?

Also is it OK to use a killcoil with dyed fluid, or should they be used with distilled water only?

Sorry about the noobie questions, but first real foray into watercooling. :o

you can, but it would dilute the colour depending on how much fluid you add

that's fine, you may want to use biocide instead though

1l just about did it for my CPU+GPU loop, but take 2l to be sfe. Also good incase you spring a leak or drop a bottle!

get two of THESE or maybe 3 for future use.

You may also want to get 3l of THIS and get a 10ml red dye bottle for £8 from the mayhems shop.

Topping it up with a bit of distilled/deionised in the future wont do any harm. Ive done it before.

I cant see that adding a silver coil would do any harm although I'd expect some sort of biocide and anti corrosion substance to already be in a premix, so I'd question as to whether its really necessary.

I add a couple drops of biocide to my de-ionised water/primochill red dye loop every now and then and its fine.

Edit/ Halfords will sell you 5 litres of deionised water for a fiver. Its just as good as distilled.

Bah, bung a litre of Evian in there, sod all the distilled lark :p

i didnt have any evian to hand, i filled it with lambrini - it was the only thing that was left untouched after the party...

EDIT: i heard if you fill the loop with Relentless it like Overclocking your watercooling loop, but there is a high chance of crashing after a while...

I'm using deionised from halfords, as it was something like £3 for five litres. I think it'll be tap water + vinegar (hard water area) when that runs out, as a part of me suspects that tap water would be every bit as good as distilled.

Oh, and you should probably go for red tubes, rather than red liquid.

Till you get a leak and fry all your hardware.

24 hour leak test! ;)

If your loop is going to leak 9 times out of 10, it will leak when you first fill the loop up, all l did was run P95 for a couple of hours to put the loop under pressure. If water tight just check the level over a couple of days to see if it needs topping up due to the last of the trapped air coming out the loop.

Just ordered 2L of that Mayhems X1 UV Red Premixed Watercooling Fluid for myself, have been using Car Plan de-ionised for my last 2 rebuilds with a silver kill coil and all went smooth but gonna try this stuff out and see how it goes.

Was your silver kill coil ok? I mean did it change colour or got some "rust" like substance on it, some will rub off some will not?

hmm must be just mine(and few others including RJK :)) then!
I used Distilled water with Pulse modding silver kill coil and just after 3 months THIS is what happened.
They are sending me a replacement. I am going to try it with Mayhems Ultra Pure H20 this time for the next 3 months and see what happens.

I actually forgot which one i bought and this one has not been in that long, maybe 2 and a half months, the first one i didn't check as i fitted that one inside the tubing and when i was shaking the old tubing out after dismantling the system it must have flown out and was never to be seen again lol.

i replaced a guys kill coils over on another site that had this problem. (same make as well)

I wont be making any more though as the price of silver is mental and im not going to make 5p per coil i make. Id rather produce a quality product at a higher price then see some thing like this happen to ours.

Oh so it was you!
I remember reading that at XS. Good on you for doing that. But did you do any tests with it to see if it is "all silver"?
I was in a lengthy email conversation with the manufacturer and the reseller till last week. Manufacturer is saying it is because of the "deposition from any molecules in the loop" and "rougher patches may even be from eroding of the silver"
How ever they are sending me a replacement. i didn't even asked for a replacement just wanted an explanation.
