Hi,
I'm looking for some advice on an HTPC system I'm considering at the moment.

I'm thinking of getting an HTPC to connect up to my living room TV to give me access to my media stored on a NAS unit, to play Blu-Ray movies and for my wife to play some games on, specifically World Of Warcraft.
The media and Blu-Ray parts are fairly standard to spec for but with the WoW requirments I'm not sure whether I'll need to go for a discrete gfx card or if any of the onboard options will be good enough? I know WoW isn't exactly cutting edge but I'd like it to run at 1080p with medium options selected.

At this stage my budget isn't really fixed but obviously the cheaper the better, could anyone suggest some possble build specs to give me an idea of cost?

Many Thanks,

Ross

Just for an idea of the performance your going to get with IGPU, i would say your looking at needing a discrete card TBH as raiding becomes unplayable below 30 FPS, or at least hard work.

Tbh your best offering a max and preferred budget then see what people come up with.

An ivy I3 system with a 6850 comes to mind as a cheap but effective combo though

Thanks for that guys, useful info. My wife will only be playing WoW very casually, definitely no raids or battlegrounds so I think the AMD A8/A10 should be up to the job.
In terms of price I think the budget is a max of £400 (not including any peripherals), is it possible to get this sort of system for that?

Thanks,

Ross

Thanks for that Cat, I see from looking into Trinity that it's going to use a new socket which is a bit of a pain. I presume this means the current Llano chips are a dead end now then in terms of future upgrades? Guess I'd best wait for Trinity and see what the prices end up being before commiting to a build.

October 2nd is meant to be the date Trinity will be released to retail, and a new socket is being used although Kaveri will be using the same socket it seems.

Thanks for that Tamzzy, nice looking system and not too bad a price. Looking at the ITX cases some of them come with small capacity psu's built in which could save some money if they are good enough. How big a psu would a system like this need? Would something like this be ok?
