My parents are going to buy my Macbook off me for my sister to have, its brand new (1/1.5 weeks old) It was given to me as part of a apple service swap. The story is my old iBook was about to go out of warrenty and had a massive list of repairs a few are...

2x MLBs!!!
2x DC in boards!!
3x Power adaptors
1x Top case
1x Bottom case
2x Batteries

And it still was not working... So they replaced it with the £829 MacBook and I bought a case £29.99 and AppleCare £49~

What I need to know is how much should I ask them for it as essentially its a £900 setup but I only paid £80 for the new parts and had loads of use out of the old iBook before hand. mac2sell.com says £620 which would bee £700 is this reasonable?

I feel bad asking for any money even though I shouldn't because its my machine, I guess because I feel like my parents don't deserve to have to pay for my sisters laptop, but thats a whole other story.

So... How much?

2.4ghz C2D
2GB Ram
160GB HDD
3 Year warrenty
Black incase carry case
Brand New.

I accept that mohinder but thats going to be less than the price of a 2nd hand macbook and it is brand new, I think I am facing more of a moral dilema here as I said already they could just have it but they want me to work out how much its worth.

where did you get 30% from if you don't mind me asking? £630 from you then?
Well, you can't sell an item as 'brand new' twice (in the UK), and people like Sony and Apple knock about 15 - 20% off items that are "refurbished" which are actually just returned items.

I then added what I thought was the 8% student discount on (which is actually 14% - I was corrected above), and came to "about" 30% off.

Thing is though, you were going to sell the iBook to them, and now you've got a Macbook, which is good fortune.. only they're going to get the brunt of it!

I'd probably do what I said, they'll get a really good deal, and you've still pocketed a fair bit of what is found money to you.

I know what you mean though, my parents offered to buy my Macbook off me, and due to you and I both being in the same position, they can get a new one for not much more than what mine's worth, so I told them I'd rather they did that instead. I either sell it for less than what it's worth, or feel like I'm knocking my own parents :(

I agree, I thought you were saying 30% + 8% (38%) LOL! I was thinking mabey £650 for all three items and a Mighty mouse.

The iBook was not an option before because it was not powerful, they were going to get a PC or a £699 macbook

Off topic, but were you working behind the till in the Apple Store yesterday?

No I am off work for 3 weeks to use up my holiday and I work on the iPod bar doing repairs and swap outs, not the POS.

I would have said that you got very lucky there and maybe you should pass on a fair bit of that saving to your parents. Maybe charge them £550 or something like that. They were going to get the base macbook for her which is not much more than people are saying you should charge for your macbook. Any money that you make from it is a bonus. How tight up are you and your parents mony wise. Id have thought that only you could say how much would be right based on that.

Thanks for all the advise I am going to say £650-£700 with the accessories and see what they think. After all its worth £900 and they were going to spend £699 + accessories, and I did work hard for the original laptop and had to put my time in to get that replacement.
