How much for a new exhaust?

I need a new one for my 1.2 2000 Corsa (I know it's terrible). I never know if I'm ripped off by a garage as I've no idea what this should cost.

So what would you expect to pay for the part and fitting, I'm in Wiltshire and labour is always the bulk of car bills.

Thanks for any input.

Are you wanting it fitted by a garage or buying parts and doing it yourself.

For my firsta I could get an entire system for £100 from the motor factors. but that's me. I dont see a corse being much different. all cars i have done exhausts on have been circa late 90's early 00 and been about same price.

Also depends on if its back box centre section both and how these parts are made up.

It'll be fitted by a garage and parts supplied by them. I'm mostly trying to determine if the local garage is a rip off or if I should look elsewhere in future.

I think the whole thing will be replaced, was last done 5 years ago.

Have you asked for a quote?

Whole exhausts don't magically need replacing. Only the knackered sections will be cut out and replaced, ie back box or middle silencer.

Phone and ask for a quote then post said quote up and people can confirm

Unfortunately I don't have time to shop around, so pretty much dropped it off, said do what you need to, call me when its ready (Garage probably loves car clueless drivers like me). I'll report back when I've been billed and know what works been done.

I'm really just trying to find out if the prices are fair in the opinion of motors, if not I'll find a different garage for the next time I break it.

Sometimes its easier replacing the whole lot rather than cutting out sections and wasting time. I got a complete system fitted for my Escort for £120 a couple of years ago.

Ok so I've got it back and here's the bill

exhaust middle £86.31
exhaust rear £57.42
Fuel Filter £11.90
clamp £2.50
Gasket £1.50
exhaust rubber £2.23
Sundries £3.00
Labour £45.00

Total with Vat 246.59

There was also a fuel leak apparently, explaining the fuel filter.

Is that price ok for the area I'm in (Wiltshire, southern rural county), Or have I just benn taken from behind?

I stand very much corrected. When peeps talk about whole exhausts, I'm thinking of the entire lump from manifold backwards.
Apologies!
Andy.

You probably got ripped off as it may have only been the back box that needed replacing. Seems they replaced the lot as i have seen your bill.

Funny enough my exhaust is blowing at the moment and i will need to get it sorted in January for the MOT. I'm expecting to pay maybe £50 to get it done.

When you said "Do what you need to" you were asking to get ripped off, and it seems you were.

That's not too bad a price to be honest, though it will be a pattern part rather than OEM. You could have saved yourself a fair bit of money if you could do it yourself, but changing exhausts without a car lift is a horrible job.
