How much fps lost during 3d gaming?

Im intrested in getting an Nvidia 3d kit but im a bit worried about the fps loss during 3d gaming. It wouldnt be worth it if it ment playing most games at 30fps or putting the games on 'low' where at the moment im running at around 60fps+ max. I know its a bit hard to say as all games are diffrent. Just an avrage fps loss would be great :) ty
 
The general rule is to divide the framerate by two (if you use the same quality settings), this page seems to bear that out.

With a GTX 580 you should have the graphical power to play modern games in 3D @1080p, medium/high settings (though not super top settings with x8 AA) and still get good framerates.
