im OCing my BFG GTX 280 OC

*EDIT*
core: 736MHz
shader: 1615MHz
memory: 1107
the above was not stable and im guessing it was the shader seenas i have upped the core clock a lot more since then.

new figures:

core clock: 615MHz --> 777MHz (firstly,. done clocking)
shader clock: 1350MHz --> 1587MHz (when im done with core going to up this more)
memory clock: 2114MHz (not started clocking yet)

So yeah, im getting a bit worried about b0rking my gtx 280 if i push my core clock much higher. or is it pretty safe to up it more?

*edit*
just tried the core clock at 783MHz and it was not stable
got my core stable at 777MHz, im gonna leave it at that because i like that number (it looks good :D)

Those are pretty good so far, most i ever got stable from my xfx 280 gtx xt was.

core, 714
mem, 1251
shader, 1504

That was with the clocks unlinked, fan speed at 100%, this passed 3dmark06 with a slight bit of glitching on the final graphics test.

atm my core and shader clock are linked and im going to keep it like that until it starts to mess up then i will fine tune it.
I have my fan speed set to 50% and temps are ~65 degrees

is it perfectly safe for me to carry on pushing it higher?

I am testing it with COD4 at a res of 1920x1080 and all settings on high

Should go further with an aftermarket cooler. Imo you wont damage the card, if artifacts occur then lower the speeds straight away and you will be fine

* Dont come after me if it dies!

EDIT 65 degrees is fine

seenas i only have my fan speed set to50% i have a lot of head room.
sooo, on i push :D
btw, everytime i up the speeds is it best to close and re-open COD4 just to make sure the changes have been recognised?

right so results so far...

core clock of 725MHz
shader clock of 1591MHz
seemed stable

tried upping them again to
core clock 735MHz
shader clock 1613MHz
but...
the game crashed within a few seconds and fortunately i have 2 monitors so i have gpu-z open on my second monitor and i saw that the clocks automatrcally dropped right down to 400mhz core and 300mhz memory. so had to restart my pc and when i did it was all set back to default.

Im gonna give them clocks another try but whack the fan speed to 100% see if that helps

right so:
core clock of 725MHz
shader clock of 1591MHz
is stable

whereas
core clock 736MHz
shader clock 1615MHz
is not stable.

i would say a stable 15% OC is rather good wouldn't you? :D
time for bed but tomorrow i will move onto the memory clock and fine tune the core and shader because i have had them linked.

screen shot of furmark results after a 5min stabilty test on Xtreme burn and custom res of 1920 x 1080 and fan speed @ 100%

by the way, can anyone try and find me the highest GTX 280 over clock (on air) so i can compare, all the ones i can find are much lower than mine :D

Night all.
