I'm thinking of getting a new job. It will be lower paid but with big +'s of being less stressful and perhaps even part time.

As you can imagine I'm in turmoil about turning my back on my current job and later regretting it. But at some point you have to say enough is enough and do something you actually look forward to getting up and doing?

Anyone, turned their back on a good job to work in an owl sanctuary or something else typically lowly valued by society in terms of prestige and pay?

I think everyone has there down phases. I know I have a few times here but in all I'm very lucky in so many ways. Could be doing with a local job.. but pay wouldn't be as good and probably not so flexible either.. It's a means to an end and that's it.

Yes, I worked in a factory 8 hours shifts/5 days a week for pretty damn reasonable pay.

Quit that job to work in my mothers shop for 16 hours a week and a dramatic slash in money. Spend 24+ hours working for an animal sanctuary (ironicaly :p) as a volunteer the other days. I can afford to do it, I have time to do it and I'm happy doing it. :)

Saying that, I would like to go back to full time employment but taking my time to find something I will enjoy doing.

I went part time to full time at my current job and regret it. I miss the afternoons off, doing whatever, had few monies but wasn't nearly as bored to tears of planning applications.
I wish i still worked at my old part time job @ threshers, was great. Flexible hours, fun job, fairly interesting plus cheap beer.

However full time did allow me more holiday entitlement and so I was able to go on a road trip accross USA this summer, and have money to buy all the rubbish I don't need.
