How much is my broken Saxo VTS worth?

Hi there.

I have an S reg VTS. Body work is spotless and its MOT and taxed till July. It does however have a broken alternator and a split in 1 of the power steering pipe.

Next door are a couple of mechanics and asked me how much I would want for it as it is. I have no idea what to sell it for but I do want to get rid of it asap so I can put the funds towards fixing my other car.

To be honest, you could very simply fix those two very minor issues yourself. A new alternator from a breaker off ebay for 30-40 quid, and about 20 mins to change it. Not sure about the pas pipe, but i very much it would be difficult to change.
 
Plenty of space to work on a saxo, not much work to do yourself to get it fixed up.

If its a good example for a 12 year old car and is still standard, you'd be surprised how much you can get for it. Query a few Saxo forums and im sure you'll get someone willing to snap your arm off for it.

A guy on the forum bought a VTR for 100 quid that was a none runner, all it needed was a starter motor which he changed himself.

How many miles has it got? Dont let it go cheap just because it needs an hours work doing to it! :P
 
They are only small issues, why not sort them out then sell it for more?

this. a pipes a pipe and a if you can get the alternator off take it to a local place that rebuilds them and for £50 you'd have a working car again.

The alternator is less of an issue due to not being an MOT requirement. i'd advise fixing the power steering pipe for pennies and taking it for a premot unless you know how to check CV joints/steering gaiters etc as they would negate the point in getting an alternator.

I remember i used to have a Fiat Panda (old noddy type shape :D) and it had a broken alternator after a few months too.

my fix?

put a battery in the passenger footwell and run jumpleads from it through the passenger window and the bonnet (which very luckily opened nearest the window instead of the bumper side) and attached them to the existing battery. worked fine for 3 months like that and i just used to charge the battery up every few days. never touched the one on the car. :D:o:D
 
I think that's ever so slightly optimistic :)

Half that for a phase 1 saxo (the ugly type that no one wants when they're running tidy) that can't be driven.

Not really when the only things that are broken are cheap easy fixes and he said the rest of it is good...
