How much is my CPU bottlenecking me?

Hi,

I've just upgraded my Saphire HD 4870 to an MSI HD 7970 Lightning 3072MB and I'm not noticing much improvement from my old card. Mainly playing games like Borderlands 2.

I am looking to upgrade my CPU+Mobo, but how much is it currently bottlenecking me?

Current setup: Intel Core2 Q6600 + 4gb of RAM
3dmark11: Overall score: P5676, Graphics score: 8962, Physics score: 2734

Can any recommend my a decent CPU/Mobo/RAM/CPU Fan for under £600?

cheers

3570K, take your pick on Z77 motherboards, grab some of the Kingston ram thats cheap this weekend only (8GB for £22 I think?) and something like a Corsair A50 cooler.

All of the above depending on what motherboard you choose should see plenty of change from £600. Probably enough for an SSD and a few pints ;)

Edit: Or just buy one of OcUK's Z77 overclocked bundles, should run in between £3-400 and come with everything you'd need.

I'd be tempted to go for one of the bundles with the MSI or Asus motherboards, hear nothing but bad things about the bios/PCIE lanes on those D3H boards :(

MSI board bundle is about £9 more and the Asus bundle around £23 more, worth it to avoid the potential pain in the bum getting the motherboard to pick up your 7970 ;)

You can check to see if you are bottlenecked in any game by running the OSD in Afterburner which shows the GPU uasge. If it is under 99%, you are bottlenecked. The bundles PGI are on about are great deals.

you can also see CPU usage if you do this http://www.overclockers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=717129

It looks complicated but it's not really :)
