How much is your car mate ?

How do people handle this question. Do you confidently tell them the true value boastfully ? Aggressively them to **** off and mind their own business ? or be rather British and Awkward about it and talk to the person asking the question, but not really answer the question because talking about money seems too uncouth for you ?
I'd reply "Why, do you want to buy it?"

Although in my case I'm always secretly hoping the answer is yes :D

Someone once offered to buy the E46 at a car meet years ago, another guy at a set of traffic lights asked if I was ever selling it to let him know, I don't think he thought that through because the lights turned green and we went in different directions.

Another time whilst waiting to enter Blackwall Tunnel a guy beeped to roll my windows down and said "it looks new how much" lol.

Maybe one day someone who really really wants an E46 will make a crazy offer I can't refuse but I'd rather just keep it for as long as possible :p

The car is worth a lot more in parts anyway so that would be the route I take if that day ever came.

Got a 1999 Clio 1.6 16V - a random rang the doorbell and asked if I was selling and how much I wanted for it as it hadn't moved for weeks - used daily!
When I said not for sale, he started verbally abusing me - so I stepped out (60y/o 5'7" so not imposing) and his girlfriend got him in the car and they left with him shouting abuse out the window

If a stranger asked me that I would find it very difficult not to explain to them that it's a wildly inappropriate question and reflects very poorly on their upbringing and indicates a particularly undesirable social stratum for even thinking to ask it in the first place. At which point I'd get looked at funny and punched ...only being quite well versed in martial arts I would evade and all of a sudden we seem to have story or a song for a medievil bard :D

Yeah I hate when people ask me.

I bought mine outright, not my best financial decision in hindsight. But telling someone you blew over 10k on car is always funny especially when they assumed you financed it.

Sometimes I just give a generic £200 p/m

Having had a lot of interesting fast cars, I can't think of a time that's been asked.

Usually they ask "how fast does it go". Which I find a weird question sometimes, as a car can go 180mph and take forever to get there, or get there extremely fast.

Maybe I should print out a laminated 0-60, 60-100, etc and show them that next time.

Car values are something pretty easy to find out, so it's a bit of a stupid question, but at the same time one I'll just answer straight as it's no secret.

Although I've never owned anything 'special'
