I know this has been discussed so much but I'm interested in how much your elecricity bill is for your crunchers? My parents just got their elecricity bill and have its over £200 more this quarter than last which they think is the two computers. Is that likely, that seems extraordinary high for 2 PC's (one is an x2 system with a 6800GT, the other a dual xeon with bare essentials, no GFX). Theyre not trying to make me pay for it, im just intrigued as it seems excessively high.

I am interested in this as well.

Will ask dad to find the relevant papers. Have been hastling him for em for a while so I can "switch with which" but he hasn't got a round to it (a round tuit).

Will try and get back to you on this one :)

200 more per quarter...

100 per pc...

over 90 days...

that's £1.11 a day...

at say 15p per kwh, that's

7kwh per 24h cycle (if on 24/7)

300w per hour - add in 75% efficency that 225w of 'used' lecky to fold per hour per machine - sounds about right
But I think 350w (at the plug) for the zeon and 250w for the X2 would be closer to the truth.

Don't know which zeon you have but they range from 40w to 150w at full load - http://www.intel.com/products/processor/xeon/specs.htm

X2 looks simular at around 60 - 95w and the 6800GT is 65w under load

Max loading below (lifted of 'another' forum)

Motherboard: 28 Watts
AMD FX-53: 89 Watts
Nvidia 6800GT: 65 Watts
1024MB Memory: 40 Watts
Hard Drives: 25 Watts each
CD Drives: 20 Watts each
DVD Drives: 25 Watts each
Sound Card: 7 Watts
4xUSB: 20 Watts

Edit: fill in the blanks and rerun calc's
Please advise on real numbers at I've guestermated some.
actual cost per Kwh=.......p
Time folding=........h/d
Actual cost over pervious bill=£.........

I just had a look and did a few calculations and that would seem a about right.

It was only during the summer as I had both PC's at home (at uni) so my production wont go down too much as one of the PC's is here. I'll have to leave one of the PC's here next summer.

That doesnt make sense, im soo tired I dont care (freshers week ;) ) :o

With 24 procs running at the moment you honestly would not want to know. :)
As Im on a £1.00 coin meter I can tell you its working out to be £6.00 for 24 hours, or 25p per proc per day.
My landlord clocked the meter down because he thought that I was putting in rather a lot of pound coins.
I dont know how this compares to you guys on a standard meter paying monthly or quarterly.

I'm also £0 as all bills are included in my rent, at least there is something good about being in student flats.

Yeah, my main PC (the X2) is with me at my student house. I have also managed to persuade my hosuemates that they need a dual xeon fileserver which means the noisy one (xeon) can come down soon and be put under the stairs with a little modification. :D
