I have a [email protected], 2gb of kingmax ddr500 in an msi diamond with a sapphire x1900xtx taking care of the pretty pictures on a 19" neovo, system fed with a 580w hiper typeR. How long would you think I will be able to still play the latsest and greatest @ 1280*1024 before it all starts to fall on its face. Stalker seems to be running ok but then again im still in shock from my upgrade just over a year back I came from a xp2600+ and ti4600 and this system seemed a hell of a leap from that. given im not intrested in benching (the mine is bigger than yours discussion funny though they are) dose anyone think there is much life in the old dog yet? and should I upgrade the gfx or the whole thing.

gpu still pretty good maybe a dualcore cpu but not to bad still could game on that machine for a year.(might be at lower settings)wouldnt change anything till crysis is due september cause it will be just a waste as theres not much thats that demanding at moment.

Well that's a pretty damn quick system tbh.

If you were looking to upgrade then going to an 8800GTX would give you a good performance jump, although if I was you i'd save and look to do the whole lot at once, i.e go to Core 2 Duo/Quad, 2GB DDR2, and a GTX.

I'm still running on a 3800+ and a X800xtpe and having a great time running BF2 and a few other games, mostly good old 'uns on a 20" tft. I've only just moved to Win XP from Win2000 in the last few weeks!

I'm looking around for a secondhand dual core 939 skt cpu which should boost things a bit. Also looking at going for a X1900 or 1950 in the near future and expect most things to be playable for a good while yet.

In a year/18 mths time I might think about picking up a 2900xtx of the members mkt for 50 quid or so !

To leap in now and spend mega bucks on a conroe/ddr2/high end vid card would be a waste of money imho with so little in the way of games for the PC on the horizon. Should that situation change and a load of stonking new titles appear that need a super pc to run it I might review things but I can't see that happening for a while yet.

Yeah I know Crysis will be here later in the year (maybe) but I'm not forking 100's out to play it lol

no one has yet pointed out that the answer to his question is:

"It depends on just when your Hiper 580W decides to blow up taking your system and half of your house with it."

As for the rest of your system then it's still cutting edge. You probably get better fps then my 6300, 7900GS setup and I'm happy with mine at the same res. I won't be upgrading graphics until the end of the summer at the earliest. When some decent DX10 cards start coming out and we can compare actual DX10 results between ATi and nVidia.
