Hey, upgrading my PC and looking @ getting an i5. How much RAM should I be looking at needing? I will often have Adobe Bridge, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom open at the same time and have noticed on my computer with 4GB its struggling a bit. But then again it might be due to the cpu being a dual core 2.5GHz.

Anyways, I have 2 questions.. :)

  1. Should I get 4/6/8 GB ram?
  2. Is it true if I get more than 4 it makes it hard to overclock?

Thanks. :)

I have CS4 and LR2 open at the same time on a laptop with 512Mb and a Pentium M 1.7Ghz. Not especially fast but it works and shows what you can actually get away with. I don't use Bridge though for the fact it's so slow.

However on my new PC which i will only really use for Capture One 6, Lightroom and CS4 i plan for 6Gb and doubt anymore will make much difference unless you have hundreds of files open at once.

I run cs5 and lightroom 3 on 5gb of ram and it's pretty fast on that, I now have a quad core cpu recently upgraded from a dual and that has made more difference to filter processing speeds etc than the memory amount ever did.
