How much memory should I install?

I am running my i7920 OC'd to 3.2GHz.
My MB is an ASUS P6T deluxe V2.
OS is vista64.
I have 12GB installed at 1300MHz but I am thinking of reducing the RAM to 6GB as I have heard it would be better running 6GB at 1600MHz rather than 12GB at 1300MHz for stability.

I think 12GB is an overkill tbh. Are the modules matched? If not, then it could be the timings are slightly out and may need to be slackened off. However if they are matched and you're having stability issues with capacity then that could be the motherboard. Check for BIOS update.

Dunno about stability but 12gb is indeed overkill for 99% of applications.

Unless you need the 12GB for your job etc i'd go 6gb as 12gb makes it harder to get stable.

use 6gig and sell the other 6

stability might be NB voltas not being upped. You should be able to get the rated speed out of your mobo/RAM unless your mobo says otherwise
