I may potentially need to withdraw £1500 tomarrow. Can I just stroll in and withdraw it from my account or do my bank need time?
It's Halifax.
Thanks :)

Phone them beforehand, might need to get clearance, but you can get out in theory whatever you have in cash as long as you give them enough prior warning.

Erm its like anything up to like 15k but its diff with diff banks, by law they have to hold a certain amount at any one time and banks vary depending on customers.

If you want a high amount i suggest giving them notice but as for £1500 you'll be fine.

last time i did it, they never battered a eye lid, was only 1k tho

dad took out 5k a few months back all he required was another form of id, they never require prior notice

both instances were from the local yorkshire bank

A couple of grand from a current account, if its more than that you may have to give them notice because the safes are time-locked...so they can have it ready for you....which is also good because if you were withdrawing 10k in cash you wouldn't want other ramdom people in the bank knowing that you are about to walk out with that kind of money.

Obviosly you would need proper ID such as passport and drivers licence.

its your account.. take as much as you want!! they cant stop you :)

Yes they can, and rightly so, its for your own safety as well as thiers.
The safes are time-locked so if you wanted some serious cash, you would have to do it by prior arrangement, and in a private room rather than over the counter where other people can see whats going on.

Phone them beforehand, it'll make it much easier.

I tried to withdraw a few £K just by walking into the bank on a Saturday. They were paranoid (and I admire them for it - rightly so). They asked quite a few difficult questions (recent transactions, regular direct debits etc.) which I struggled with, but eventually got the cash :)

i walked in bout 4 years ago and just asked for 3k to use for a car, spose it depends on the bank and the size of the branch, also im sure banks dont want to see money leave in the state they r in at the mo

The limit is the amount of cash they are willing to let you have that's in their safes.

I.e. If they have £1mil and you want £50,000, I don't see a problem. The only issue is notice... but given the fact I took £4k out yesterday with no notice in a small branch, I can't see there being a major issue for £1500. All I needed was my card and pin.

Tends to depend very much on if it was/is a building society - they don't tend to have as much cash on hand as the more traditional banks (such as Natwest, HSBC etc) and so have much lower limits.

I know the maximum withdrawal over the counter from a Nationwide branch is £500 without arranging it before hand. Although they still allow you to draw an additional £300 from a cash machine.

As others have said it depends greatly on who your bank is, and where it is located.

Make sure to loudly explain to the person that you 'don't want a bankers draft because it might not clear' and if they start asking security questions again loudly ask 'you do have the money? You've not run out of money have you?'. Trying to start a run is always fun :D
