hi guys i have a E3300 with a stock speed of 2.5GHz
i have been running it stable on 3.0GHz for about 6 months

its running on the stock cooler and paste.
Foxconn g41mx 2.0 mobo
i have 2 gb dual channel ddr2 ram pc2-5300

question is,
can i overclock further with the hardware i have?
or do i need faster ram?
also are temps ok?

Bottom line is let temperature be your guide. If the overclock is possible within safe limits then go for it.

You can get round the ram limitation if there is one. The motherboard will have options to change the dividers for the ram. That should allow you to increase your FSB a touch till you find your maximum safe frequency.

just looked. max operating temperature is 74.C.

will the ram stop me going much higher?

That temp refers to the overal cpu temp, not the core temps.

You would need something like http://openhardwaremonitor.org/ to be able to read the Overal (CPU) temp.

The cores on your cpu can go as high as 100c, thats what both OCCT and core temp are reading, so you have quite abit more head room to play with.

hi guys i have hit my limit.
i increased the fsb to 250 (3.125GHz) and it ran fine on OCCT for 30 mins with top temp of 51.C
changed the fsb to 260 and it wont boot.
changed down to 258 and it fine.
i have left the fsb at 258 (3.325GHz),
not bad for a cheap chip.

i know this chip can go higher, but its either the mobo or ram stopping me.
i will leave it for now.
thanks everyone for advice.

I would say you have done real well mate - as you say not bad for a cheap CPU.

Nice overclock.

BTW you must be pleased at today's goings on at the Club.
