I have finally just grabbed all the parts i need for my 2nd PC. I have been buying 2nd hand so it has saved me lots of cash. I would just like to know how much of an improvement if any i will notice between the 2 specs, i do mostly gaming.

Asus P4C800-E Delux
P4 3.0 Northwood @ 3.6
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC4000
Nvidea 6800GT

new build....

Abit AN8 Ultra
AMD 64 Venice 3000+ ( Gonna be O/C'd to the max )
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC4000
Nvidea MSI NX6800 Ultra

The spec is planned to last me until early next year when i will upgrade again proberbly to Conroe with Vista.

In games it will be faster as the CPU is faster in games and the videocard is a bit faster.

Video/audio editing it will possibly be a bit slower.

Will you buy a seperate cooler or use the stock one?

I really can't see a lot of point in that upgrade, it should really be worthwhile and you should notice a difference when doing so. A 6800GT to an Ultra is not worth it, likewise a P4 @ 3.6GHz to a 3000+ isn't really an upgrade at all.

I wouldn't bother unless you are going to be spending more on the videocard or going for a dual core A64.

Well i have got hold of all that hardware for under £200 and im sure i will get that for my P4 rig - in the long term i wanted PCI Express so i could upgrade to a better FX card that is the reason for the new build.

If you can manage that upgrade without spending money then good luck to you, thats always good ;)

I think it is a good enough upgrade, the CPU will be faster in games, it will be a cheap upgrade and FUNTY goes from AGP to PCIe so in a few months time he can buy a 2nd hand 7900GT/X1900
