hello, so ive just ordered some more ram, 8gb just isnt enough anywore so seeing https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-061-TG&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1387 on offer it seemed a good option.

i have the same but in gold already so timing and stuff i assume being the same, im hoping i can just drop it in and bingo, settings all remain the same and no bother at all.

im worried it wont be that easy though as the ram timings i remember having a right pain making the mobo actually use the xmp profile for them. so should it be a drop in and done or a take the entire day off to dick around with it?

That's why you should always buy matching kits.

If you could link your gold ones we can tell you whether they are the same.

You shouldn't have an issue running them at standard speed and timings though.

well the item as linked in my order history shows as no longer existing but a copy paste of its description is

TeamGroup Vulcan GOLD 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C11 2400MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLYD38G2400HC11CDC01)

RAM versions can differ. I recently RMA'd some memory to Corsair and the ones I got back were a different version that would not run with my remaining kit.

If possible, check the version you are buying.

everything would seem to say they are the same. same timings etc

did mobo like it getting added? oh hells no it has not. its curruntly all running at 1600 as i get fed up trying to make it work, well for today anyway.

Bear in mind more RAM can stress the memory controller more, so if you had an overclock applied it may no longer be stable.

oh i wasnt ocing the ram, it was running at its spec of 2400 but yeah the controller decieded it wasnt happy, reset itself and using the xmp profile to set the ram config it isnt stable.

so going to have to manually tweek things, urgh. i dont find this all as fun as i used to.
