I was thinking about buying most of a new computer and I was wondering if I can keep an old PSU. It's 520W (NesteQ NA 5201) so

  1. Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping (SLBEJ) 2.66Ghz overclocked up to 4.00GHz!
  2. Asus P6TD Deluxe Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard
  3. Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 (1600MHz) Tri-Channel (TR3X6G1600C9)
  4. Titan TTC-NK85TZ Fenrir CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940/AM2/LGA775/LGA1366)
  5. Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound (3.5g)
  6. Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5870 Vapor-X 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

Then either use the old disc system

  • 3ware Escalade 9500S-12 Storage controller (RAID)- Serial ATA-150- 150 MBps
  • 5 * 500GB disc

Edit: Got the bundle wrong...

It would be in a Lian Li Pc V2100, which means the cable run from the PSU to the components needs to be quiet long
Or replace with a smaller number of big discs.

i would not keep that psu as you wont want the risk of it blowing up your very expensive gear.....a Corsair HX750w or OCZ Modxtreem 700w will be a nice psu to go with

+1.
Even it did run it, you'll see worse performance, and if it isnt the worth the risk of it not :P
