I'm hoping to upgrade to vista along with new GFX cards I will need bomb loads of ram from what other people have said, I have the Asus A8n sli deluxe n force 4 motherboard. How much ram can I have in it at max ? what ram will work with it? I currently have 2 x 512 geil value in atm.

thanks

2gb should be enough until bigger badder games and apps come out at which time 2gb sticks will become cheaper. So... 2gb now, more in a year.

You can get like 8gb sticks, but they're pretty pointless atm.

As I said, the most you'll need now is another 2 sticks of 512mb, even vista shouldn't complain too much at that.

You can get a pretty cheap Geil set of 2 1GB sticks for around £140 ish. DDR2 667 I think.

1GB will be absolutely fine for Vista (please don't feed the trolls who are going on about the crazy minimum specs - they are just trolling).
2GB will make a nice boost, but you really won't need more than that.

I've currently got 4GB in my machine, however that is only because I managed to get the Geil DDR2 800 (2x 1GB kits) from OcUK when they were selling at £109+vat per kit.
I wouldn't be going for 4GB of RAM at todays prices.

I'm currently using 1.08Gb in Vista with just Firefox and a couple of Folding cores running (the Folding cores are using only 110mb between them).

Trying to game in Vista with just 1gb won't be fun.

Have you actually used Vista STOOFA ? If so, if you play any games, then youll know that is such a BS comment about us 'crazy minimum spec trolls' and 1gb will be fine! Running Vista on 1gb of RAM is like running XP with Norton AV on 256mb RAM !

Having been a BETA tester for VISTA for the last 8 months, I can catagorically say 2GB minimum.

I would be suprised if they ever make a 3gb stick...you can get 2b stick, and 4gb sticks (only ECC RAM though) specifically for servers. Next logical step will be 8gb sticks. Mobo for home use support a max od 8gb currently I believe.

you board only support 4gb, so the most you could do is 4 1gb sticks, or 2 x 2gb stick. But 4gb really is overkill unless you really need it, which I dont think you do ! :)
