how much difference in games will 4 gig give?
Hey llwayneio, if you are using a 64-bit operating system then you will be able to utilise 4GB of memory. If you are looking at purchasing a 64-bit Operating System then I would highly recommend Windows Vista.
The support for Windows Vista is now excellent and the majority of the hardware and software out their now work absolutely fine under Windows Vista. However please take into account that Windows Vista 64-bit cannot run 16-bit coded applications and also some decidedly 32-bit applications actually have an inclusion of 16-bit code in the installers. However that's very far and few between and really isn't something you need to worry about unless you specifically know of anything that you use that is 16-bit encoded in any way.
There are a few different versions of Windows Vista that you can buy and you may be slightly confused as in which one to purchase.
Here is a great graph that compares all of the editions of Windows Vista with one another. The two you are most likely looking at are Windows Vista Home Premium and Ultimate. I have used both and in my opinion Vista Ultimate is not worth the extra £50 over Home Premium.
Now regarding the performance increase. In the Windows environment, especially in Windows Vista because of the way it utilises memory (This is a good thing

), you should notice a performance increase in application loading times and general usage around the desktop. Now in games, this may not be so apparent. In the vast majority of games currently out their, there is a good chance that adding the extra 2GB of memory to your system will have very little affect on the performance in games. Obviously this is not to say that you won’t notice any such increase but try and not get your hopes up to much because you think you're going to see a huge performance increase.
Having said all of that though, memory is so cheap at the moment, if you would like the extra 2GB of memory, it certainly won’t do your system any harm
