How much rent?

What proportion of household income would be normal to spend on rent?

We're still coming (link to thread), and are just trying to do some budgeting...

Same here, pretty much bang on 25% Probably another 15% for all the bills.

Yea, 25% if you live in a slum in slumville, slumshire and make a packet. I used to pay 50-60%.

So... if I get a job paying ~£25k, and my wife paying ~£15k; we should plan on spending £650pcm on rent.
Looks like we can get some nice rentals for that much.

Now all I need is to secure that job and find somewhere to live nearby that doesn't cost more that £650....

Between me and my house mate we make around £28,000 and pay £595 a month in rent. You can easily afford more than £650 on £40k a year!

basic rule of thunmb, anything below birmingham and rent becomes insane. Coventry avg price for a 1 bedroomed flat in an average area = £400 per calander month. they can be found for around £320 if you dont mind living in a real rough spot.
