How much should I save?

Saving for a new pc mainly for gaming (Bf2, source engine/doom3 engine games etc) So It needs a nice graphics card and 2gig of ram.

At the moment I have £500 saved which Isnt enough, But I was also thinking of getting a new monitior that would bump the price up, my current crt is a little fish bowled.

So how much should I save for a decent case + everything in it?
Also how much are good tft/lcd screens?

Personally i would say between 800 and 1200.
I am sure others will say less and could spec you for half that but personally i feel that is the figure i require before i build my next rig. I could build for cheaper but it wouldn't give me a big enouth step up or be good enouth for long enouth.

£800 will get you a powerful bang for buck system, that's the budget i've got and I know that what i'm getting is good stuff.

I'm far from an expert on monitors but speaking personally my next screen will probably be in the region of 20-24" so anywhere from around £250+ but more realistically around £300 as a minimum and that would be on top of what I would spend on a PC which in itself for a new main PC would be £800ish minimum.

You could probably get most of the performance at somewhere ~£600 with judicious choice of components and some overclocking though.
