I run a website which is like a big archive of graffiti photos from Yorkshire.

www.yorkshirejunkies.co.uk
www.yorkshirejunkies.co.uk/gallery

It has a forum with just over a thousand registered users.

I've been approached by a few companies who sell spraypaint wanting to advertise on the forum/website in terms of a small banner. They've asked me how much I charge but I don't really know what price to give them.

Google Analytics reports around 300 hits a day to the site, and anything from 200-350 a day to the forums.

How much should I charge? Baring in mind these aren't small companies they are probably the biggest stockists of spraypaint in the UK.

Cheers.

Charge £100 a month (low) but charge a per click rate (4p)?, and a commission, something like 0.5-1%.

Charge them more than a 100, personally i would try 200, if there a large organisation and keen to sponsor you then they will easily pay 200 per month!! :) Don't under sell yourself, if they are unhappy to pay you that amount then negotiate another amount!

Pricing is always difficult when you are starting with no information; with no idea what the maximum they would pay.

How many different companies are interested? If you have a few, my tactic would be to try your luck with one and propose a high rate, if they reject it then you can always reduce your price or go to the other potential clients.

Also are there similar sites that already take adverts from these companies? Don't be shy, drop the website owner an email and ask what they charge?

200 a month for a 250 hit a day site???
I would have thought closer to 200 a year.

I advertise on a couple of sites how have significantly more h/p/d than that and they charge £150-£200 per year

Whatever you charge, make sure you sign some sort of contract that says the pricing will be reviewed after x amount of time.

Charge what you think is almost the maximum they're willing to pay.

However, I'd say £200 is way too much. Do you have any more information? E.g. Unique hits per month.

Try and keep stats per month as you'll be charging that way.
